'Champions' Are Adult Football League Winners
The Anaheim Park and Recreation Department's first Adult Football League came in a successful conclusion as Capt. Jets Stifler of the "Champions" accepted the winner's trophy from Recreation Supervisor Leonard Roberts.
The Champions, which is the official name of the winning team, topped a four-team league with a 5-1 record in the competition. Northrup Aviation placed second while Delco and a Naval entry tied for third. The Champions are an independent group of teachers and working men.
This year was the first local attempt at adult recreational football and, according to Roberts, the program was so successful it will become a regular part of the Anaheim offerings.
"We plan to enlarge the program next season and it will undoubtedly include eight or more teams," he said.
The roster of the victorious Champions included George Sedia, Glenn Herbel, Wayne Ambrose, Mat Mason, Jim Selterland, Ed Riley, Dennis Flannagan, Karl Snow and Frank LeGrange.

Municipal bonds are actually promises to pay borrowed money and the interest on that money out of taxes or revenues raised in the area benefited by the improvement. The interest to be paid is determined by competitive bidding between groups of municipal bond underwriters such as those organized by the Bank of America... the bonds being sold to the group or individual whose bid requires the borrower to pay the lowest average rate of interest. Under this competitive public sale system, the money saved you as a tax payer or user of the services, can run into many thousands of dollars.
If your community is considering a public improvement, the Municipal Bond Department of the Bank of America will be pleased to help you with suggestions on your municipal financing plans. Contact us through your nearby Bank of America branch, or call us direct in Los Angeles.

Reapportionment Battle Appears Certain for 1960
Reapportionment of the California State Senate is a proposed bugaboo haunting many Southerners and Northerners alike, one which has drifted away with the off-year political tide.
Insiders today perceive real muscle in the Senate reapportionment issue and speculate that a strong possibility exists a measure to place the issue before the electorate will be qualified for the November, 1960, general election.
Prime support for a reapportionment of the Senate comes, of course, from various groups in the Southland. The latter contend that unless the Senate is reapportioned to give Southern California at least one-half the members of the Senate to go with the Southern majority in the State Assembly, the South will vote against the state water bond issue on the grounds that their rights will not be protected in the Legislature.
Not Getting Square Shake
Southern reapportionment advocates contend, as well, that the South is not getting a square shake on many pieces of legislation in Sacramento because of the Northern-dominated Senate.
Significantly, many Southlanders differ only on the timing of the attempt to reapportion the
Looks Like Biggest Christmas Mail Ever, Declares Postmaster McFie
It looks like the biggest Christmas ever so far as Uncle Sam's Anaheim Postoffice is concerned—a real hangup record-smasher.
"Between Dec. 1 and Dec. 25 last year, we handled a total of 2,700,000 pieces of mail," comments Anaheim Postmaster Marshall N. McFie. "So far this year we have received and dispatched 420,000 Christmas cards, letters and packages, and the heaviest rush is till to come."
The postmaster says that the present flow of Christmas cards is running about the same as last year, but the mailing of Christmas gifts is lagging somewhat. He suggests that all gift parcels to most distant points be sent by Air Parcel Post from now on.
Speaking about Christmas gift packages, the postmaster said, "cannot emphasize too strongly the vital need for packing and wrapping your Christmas gifts secure more than ever bef

Not Getting Square Shake
Southern reapportionment advocates contend, as well, that the South is not getting a square shake on many pieces of legislation in Sacramento because of the Northern-dominated Senate.
Significantly, many Southlanders differ only on the timing of the attempt to reapportion the Senate. Some contend that it should be attempted in 1960, others in 1962. Still others, like a vast majority of Northern Californians, firmly believe that California is well served by the so-called Federal Plan of legislative apportionment now in being.
The present plan provides that the Assembly members are divided up on the basis of population—those counties with the largest population having the most assemblymen.
The State Senate is divided more on geographical lines so that those areas with sparse population are guaranteed legislative representation, too. This system is comparable to that of the Federal Government where the U.S. Senate is apportioned two members to each state and the House of Representatives in apportioned on the basis of the population of the states.
Today's controversy over reapportionment of the California State Senate, political observers are convinced, no longer can be regarded as just a subject of off-year political conversation. Too many pieces fit together which lead observers to believe that the drive will be made in earnest. If this proves so, the reapportionment issue will have a substantial impact on the entire California political picture in 1960.

THE CHRISTMAS TREE LEGEND
By Joan Imig
Since earliest days the bringing of evergreens indoors at Christme has been one of the first ways of giving the home a
air. Actually the graceful custom of the use of evergreens
roots in the profound reverence of the Ancients for all of
eve. Every fountain had its spirit, every mountain its deity, and
grove and meadow its supernatural associations.
The decorated tree came into being with the early Romans when
it was common to hang little masks of Bacchus upon trees and
to impart fertility to every side of the trees to which the wind
did its face. However, it was not until the 16th century that
urban homes became decorated with Christmas trees. In many
pean countries Fir trees were put up in rooms and adorned
roses cut from many colored papers, with apples, leafgold and

Christmas Mail Master McFie
postmaster says that the flow of Christmas cards is lagging somewhat. Requests that all gift parcels distant points be sent by mail Post from now on.
Being about Christmas gifts, the postmaster said, "I emphasize too strongly the need for packing and wrapping Christmas gifts securely."
Pack all your gifts in sturdy, cartons, wrap them with heavy paper, and tie them securely with strong cord. It is sometimes hard to understand why people will be so careless about putting valuable Christmas gifts into the mails in flimsy boxes and loosely wrapped packages. Many of these poorly wrapped gifts simply cannot stand the necessary handling, and thus cause much delay and disappointment all around.
The postmaster further suggests that it is best to print the recipients full name, street address, city, zone number and state on all mailing labels, making sure to include an extra label inside your gift packages.
If you'll send all your Christmas cards by first class mail and include your name and address on the envelope, you'll help your friends to keep their mailing lists up-to-date. Further, you are assured that any card that cannot be delivered will be returned to you for corrected addresses.
If you wish to enclose your Christmas card or letter in your gift package, merely add the appropriate letter postage.
