Hospital Volunteers To Meet New Coordinator Sept. 25
All members of the Orange County General Hospital Volunteers are being invited to a Coffee Hour the morning of Sept. 25 so that they may meet the newly appointed coordinator of volunteer services at the hospital, Mrs. Chester R. Harris. The event will be at 10 a.m. in the Nurses Home Lounge on the hospital grounds.
Mrs. Harris succeeds Mrs. Barbara Griffin, who is returning to the field of active nursing and will work in the hospital's new mental health unit.
Bringing a number of years of experience in volunteer service work, Mrs. Harris began her duties at the County Hospital Sept. 1. She has spent some ten years as a Red Cross unit chairman in charge of training Gray Ladies. In this capacity, she worked on the reopening of a family clinic in Kingsville, Texas, which had been previously closed due to lack of personnel.
On Oct. 1, she will receive a 600-hour pin in recognition of her social service work with the Navy Relief Society in Cherry Point, North Carolina; Miami, Fla.; Kingsville, Texas; and at El Toro. Her husband is a major in the Marine Corps.
Mrs. Harris is welfare chairman for the Tustin Area Women's Club and Tustin Elementary School PTA and membership chairman for the Tustin Memorial School PTA.
The Orange County General Hospital Volunteers still needs many more workers in the areas of child care, patient activities, receptionists, clerical help, and production.
By 1960 Orange County General Hospital will have 1,100 beds. However the number of patients using the hospital is increasing.
