taxpayers for their efforts. Except REFINERY SMOG, DIESEL TRUCK JAMMED FREEWAYS. No Transportation system, poor streets etc. Extremely disgusting "Welfare State Condition" supported by the few working in private industry.
So, let's get rid of high salaried personnel, deadwood, reduce taxes utility bills and operate the city on current funds in a business like manner. Anyone who does not care to follow this pattern should seek employment elsewhere. We need civic minded people not money' parasites.
FOR THE RECORD — For a moment let's examine this letter and see if the writer really does have the facts.
Mayor Schutte was right to the point recently when he commended City Manager Murdoch for balancing the budget in this time of rising costs without having to raise the city tax rate of $1.10 per $100 of assessed valuation.
Anaheim's tax rate has not increased from the $1.10 figure since 1950. And during that period the population has shown one of the biggest increases in any city's history.
And the cost of obtaining water from the Metropolitan Water district has increased three times since Anaheim's last rate adjustment. The cost of pumping water has also increased due to rising electrical rates and the adoption of Councilmen finally agreed to allow the minimum lot size of 6,000 sq. ft. on some property in the subdivision. It was explained these houses will be located on the city limits next to Buena Park homes which are the same size. The rest of the homes as they come toward Anaheim will be the regular city size.
In other business the council denied the request by Harold and Billye Olander for permission to operate a beauty shop at 2190 Cattalpa Ave. At least 70 residents signed a petition objecting to running the one-operator shop in a family residence.
Councilmen also denied the request by Wayne Earl Shull for permission to build professional offices, stores and cocktail bar on the east side of Euclid between Katella and Sumac Lane. The council's main objection was the location of the cocktail bar after hearing protests from residents.
The request by Northrop Corp. for permission to manufacture countermeasures and rockets at the south side of Orangethorpe between Lemon and Raymon, was granted.
The request by West Coast Baptist Children's Home for change of zone from R-A and R-O to R-3 at the northeast corner of South and East was referred back to the Planning Commission. Councilmen took this action when Walter Gooden, real estate agent, said he wanted to modify the request. At least 25 to 30 residents

In each instance it has been the city absorbing the increases without raising water tax rates.
The new rate increase proposed in the 1959-60 budget will raise the average homeowner's bill 75 cents a month or approximately $9 a year.
But the biggest "delusion" contained in this irate letter is the demand seeking salary cuts.
Would this resident, who signed his letter, "Overtaxed taxpayer, citizen scientist," take a salary cut this year? Is he overpaid in his job as a chemist for a local company here.
Of course, not! And the people who are running one of the biggest businesses in the area, the city of Anaheim certainly aren't getting rich.
If anything, the administrators have to be more than dedicated if it is a question of comparing pay checks in private industry and municipal government.
This reporter for one would like to join Mayor Schutte in his praise of the city manager, his assistants and city hall employees. If anything, they are performing a thankless job—one that takes a lot more work than the time spent by one or two irate taxpayers who have the leisure to write letters before getting their facts straight.

be legally advisable to us to protect our interest and investment in this matter."
Supt. Bob Shanks told the Gazette this week it is the feeling of the board that Jerrold intended to substitute other equipment for that listed in the specifications the ETV system.
Shanks said that he has been advised by the County Counsel's office the board's stand on the higher bidder is perfectly legal under the circumstances.
