Goodwin J. Knight Ideal for Cabinet Post
Goodwin J. Knight is prominently mentioned in political circles for the appointment of Secretary of Commerce and leading Republicans throughout the state are urging President Eisenhower to appoint the popular former Governor to that post.
With the vast knowledge that the "dynamic "Goodie" possesses, and with his capacity for a long day's work, he would be an able addition to the President's cabinet.
Goodwin Knight served his state well for many years as Superior Judge and then as Lieutenant Governor and Governor. His only drawback has been the criticism heaped upon him by one Southern California newspaper because he refused consistently to accept their dictation.
California has had only three members of a Presidential cabinet in the past 100 years. The selection by Eisenhower of the former Governor would be a popular choice — And since a wife is an important part of the political life in Washington Mrs. Knight (Virginia) would fit in well with Washington society.
The gracious lady has a pleasing personality and has been exceedingly helpful to Knight in his political campaigns.—B.J.A.

These small markets have had a phenomenal growth during the Athletics Still Lead in Babe Ruth League Play
By Steve Hudson
The West Anaheim Babe Ruth League moved into its final season of play today with the Athletics still holding the lead.
The Tigers started the week off by dunking the Red Sox 8 while pulling a triple-play in the process.
The Yankees bounced the Red Sox the following day by a 9-tally.
In the big July 4 double header a passed ball cost a victory over the White Sox as the game was called at 4 a piece.
In the second contest of the day the Athletics hung on to gain a 3-3 tie with the Tigers.
In the Sunday twin-bill the Red Sox smashed the Athletics 20; the Yankees edged the Tigers by 2-0 count.
There are no games scheduled.

League Leaders Take Week Off
By Chuck Turner
Anaheim's league leading Legion men draw a bye this week end while their West Anaheim counterparts take on Orange first on the latters field and then at La Palma.
In games played last week end West Anaheim split with Garden Grove, losing first 7-2 and then winning 9-8 on the Grover's five errors.
Anaheim bopped helpless Placentia twice; first by a 6-2 margin behind the three hit pitching of Clint Stark, and then 7-0 on Jerry Stephenson's four hitter.
A quick look at this week end's schedule shows second place Midway City in a home and away series, with Garden Grove, La Habra plays at Fullerton's Amerige Park, then meeting Fullerton at La Habra High School and Santa Ana meets Placentia in a home and away series.
Girl Bitten
A chipmunk is still in quarrel today after biting Christ Dickman of 956 Caplan on the left thumb. The animal is kept as a pet in the neighborhood.

Boys Held for Train Derailment
Two boys, one 15 and the other 16, apparently are held responsible today by police for an attempted derailment of a train at Disneyland.
They were apprehended by Disneyland Security officers last week while leaving the scene. The boys told police they placed a two-by-two inch block of wood on the Santa Fe RR tracks, purportedly to see if the train would knock the wood from the tracks.
The boys were booked for attempted train derailment.
