Hheim Mother of Four Children Gets College Degree
Over Hectic Three Months at Stanford with Family
You think raising four lively
taters is a chore in itself,
combining it with the job of
eng an education 800 miles
from home, taking them all
out.
H. William (Diane) Bridger, 4; Brian, 3; Blaine, 2 and
l, did just that, and now,
a Stanford University diln in her possession she can
down' and "relax" with the
children and husband Bill in their
Anaheim home.
Diane received her diploma a
week ago after a five-year whirl
involving marriage, babies and
colleges, and ending in a hectic
three months at Stanford with
the children for her final semester.
It all started rather serenely
a few years ago when Diane and
Bill met while both were serving food in a cafeteria and attitending Stanford. She was a freshman, he a senior.
When they married in her second year they had no intention
of letting it interfere with the
pursuit of college credits. And it
didn't. Things just got a little
unorthodox, that's all.
The young couple settled in
Anaheim, and then came the childen. But Diane never lost sight
of her goal. In between babies
she attended Long Beach State
College until last spring when she
found she needed only 15 units
of work which she had to finish
at Stanford in order to graduate
from there.
"I had to finish at Stanford."
she says. "I started there and
Bill graduated from there. It meant a lot to me."
So, taking the bull by the horns
and the children by the hand, Diane went back to Stanford. Settling her family in nearby Mountain View and engaging a baby sitter, she began a whirlwind daily schedule involving getting the children ready for the sitter in the morning, attending classes all day, returning to feed them and put them to bed, and then studying late into the night. During this time she finished six
time between minding the packing business in Anaheim during the week, and rushing up to Stanford every weekend to see how the children and the college credits were coming along.
Now it's all over. Diane and brood (and sheepskin) are back in Anaheim and everything is comparatively quiet.
Asked what she plans next, Di-ane says casually, "Oh, later I'd like to write, but for the time being I guess I'll just relax at home with the children."

Gay Ninety Gals Try Taping Experiment
The Gay Ninety Gals met in the Yorba Linda home of their director, Whit Cromwell, Tuesday night to make tape recordings of some of their best numbers.
A new experiment for the singers, the recording session was strictly for their own pleasure, according to Mrs. Charles Waldo, spokesman for the group. The tapes will be studied and if the experiment proves successful the group may go to Los Angeles to record, she said.
The 30-odd members specialize in unaccompanied singing and have sung around Orange County for the past four years.
Cromwell, besides directing the Gay Ninety Gals, serves as postmaster of Yorba Linda, and has a barbershop quartet, the HI-FI's, well known in Orange County.
The Gay Ninety Gals meet weekly in the Horace Mann School all winter. No meetings are held during the summer, except social gatherings and occasional engagements. Information regarding membership can be obtained from Mrs. Waldo.
