Reading School to Augment Classes
Opening this week in Garden Grove, the Reading Guidance Center brings Orange County an opportunity for solution to remedial reading problems.
"Reading skills underlie success in school, business and industry," emphasized Richard L. Zweig, director of the new clinic located at 13041 E. Belfast Drive in Garden Square.
Educators generally agree that one-third of all school children perform below grade level in reading. Zweig points out, "This yardstick would indicate that there are 32,000 Orange County school children in need of remedial help."
Zweig, a certificated school psychologist, tells how the clinic serves: "A poor reader is referred to the Center by the teacher, school psychologist, or directly by his parents. Our staff of psychologists administer diagnostic tests to pinpoint specific problem areas and to determine the student's reading potential.
Pupils Regain Confidence
A definite program for development is then planned to bring the youngster up to his full potential."
"We lead the child from one success to another," explains the veteran teacher and clinician, "tntil he is ready to participate with confidence in his regular school program."
Each member of Zweig's staff holds a masters degree and most hold a PhD. All staff members have a minimum of ten years experience in public schools and university clinics.
Orlo Brees Speaks At October Meet Associated C. of C.
Associated Chambers of Commerce of Orange County will hold its next membership meeting Thursday evening, Oct. 2, at the American Legion Hall in Orange.
Guest will be Orlo Brees from the National Association of Manufacturers. He is an outstanding speaker with a challenging message of interest to everyone. Paul Kroesen will act as master of ceremonies.
Also on the program according to Robert Daily, president of the countywide Booster Group, will be a husband and wife duo, Art and Jo Breyfogle. She is a soprano who appeared in the original New York production "Carrousel". He appeared in "Song of Norway" and sang with the Los Angeles, San Francisco and Denver light opera companies. They will sing a medley of numbers from some of Broadway's hit musicals. The entertainment is furnished through the courtesy of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines where Art Breyfogle is employed in the public relations field.
The meeting in Orange is the 13.

The Reading Guidance Center, Garden Grove, is the newest branch of a large organization founded several years ago in Long Beach. Zweig now makes available to Orange County residents the full range of scientific methods and techniques which have been successfully developed over a period of years.
