B2 - Anaheim Gazette Anahiem, Calif., Thurs., June 14, 1957 STRAWBERRY BANANA SPLITS (Makes 6 servings) 1 quart fresh strawberries, alced 7 tablespoons sugar 2½ cups whipped instant nonfat dry milk? 6 medium-sized bananas, cut in half lengthwise 2 tablespoons lemon juice Combine strawberries and 3 tablespoons sugar; mix well. Add remaining ¼ cup sugar to whipped instant dry milk. Brush cut sides of bananas with lemon juice and arrange in serving dishes. Top with strawberry mixture and sweetened whipped instant dry milk. Serve at once. To whip instant nonfat dry milk (makes about 2½ cups) Mix ½ cup instant nonfat dry milk with ½ cup ice water. Whip until soft peaks form (3-4 minutes). Add 2 tablespoons lemon juice. Continue beating until stiff peaks form (3-4 minutes longer). PEANUT BUTTER DROPS Cream ½ cup butter and ¾ cup chunk-style peanut butter together. Add 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar gradually, beating until fluffy. Add 2 eggs, one at a time, and beat well after each addition. Stir in 2 tablespoons milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Sift 1 teaspoon soda with 1 cup sifted all purpose flour, then add to creamed mixture. Stir in 3 finely chopped candy bars. Chill dough for several hours. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto lightly greased cooky sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Cool slightly before removing from cooky sheets. Makes 4 dozen. RICE AND VEGETABLE HOT CAKES Beat 1 egg in mixing bowl. Add 1 cup cooked rice, 1 cup cooked chopped mixed vegetables and ¼ cup grated sharp cheese. Sift together ½ cup all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons double-acting baking powder, ½ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Add to rice and vegetable mixture, well. Add enough milk (about cup) to make thick batter, thoroughly. Spoon hot cake ter onto hot greased griddle in skillet to form cakes of desired. Cook on one side u bubbles appear. STRAWBERRY MERINGUE BASKETS (Makes 6 servings) 4 egg whites ½ teaspoon cream of tartar ½ teaspoon salt 1 cup sugar 1 quart fresh strawberries, sliced ¼ cup sugar 2½ cups whipped instant nonfat dry milk Beat egg whites with cream of tartar and salt until foamy. Gradually add 1 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating constantly until stiff and glossy. Shape into 6 circles on buttered heavy paper, leaving an indentation in centers. Place on baking sheets. Bake in slow oven (300°) 1 hour, or until crisp and lightly browned. Cool. Fill with strawberries. Add ½ cup sugar to whipped instant dry milk. Cook until slightly thickened. move from heat and cool. in egg whites and whipped cream Sprinkle ½ candy in bottom of pudding mixture; sprinkle other ½ candy over layer.
