Chevrolet Station Wagon Bodies Built On West Coast Now
Chevrolet's station wagon bodies are now completely assembled and produced on the west coast for the first time, according to G. W. Wiegand, Fisher Body plant manager, Van Nuys.
This was made possible when the Fisher plant was expanded some 800,000 square feet to handle the additional production of station wagons and convertible model bodies for Chevrolet.
Production of station wagons was started in February, 1957, and because of customer demand the plant is producing more than 150 units per day in five different models and shipping to dealers in the eight far western states, J. D. Rhoades, Chevrolet plant manager, said.
Heretofore all station wagon bodies were produced at Fisher plants in St. Louis, Mo., and Euclid, Ohio. When station wagon production for the far west was transferred to Van Nuys, it reduced the waiting time for customer delivery from weeks to a matter of days.
