GM Employees Enthused with Savings - Stock Plan General Motors salaried employees continued to show their enthusiasm for the company's savings-stock purchase program by investing $45,615,000 during 1958, an average of $125,000 a day during the program's first full year of operation. Harlow H. Curtice, president of General Motors, announced that 92,300 or 86 per cent of the 107,000 eligible salaried employees in the United States and Canada elected to participate in the program last year. During 1956, the participating employees saved an average of 8 per cent of their salaries. The savings - stock purchase program provides that salaries with one or more of continuous service may be a maximum of 10 per cent their salaries. Half the employee savings is invested in government bonds and half in GM common stock. The company contributes $1 for each $2 of employee savings which is invested entirely in common stock.
