EDUCE RANUNCULUS AND ANEMONES In all but the warm areas of the state, Anemone and Ranunculus should be planted within the next few weeks if their beauty is to awaken your garden this coming spring. Both the Anemone and Ranunculus are hardy bulb flowers. In mild winter areas, plant them in light, loamy soil. Before planting, however, soak Anemone bulbs in water for one hour, and Ranunculus for two or three hours. In cold winter areas, wait until early spring before setting out your bulbs. Ranunculus bulbs are set an inch deep, claws downward and Anemone, three inches deep. Care for Ranunculus just as you do for annuals, advises the California Association of Nurserymen. Plant in sun (or half-shade in warm climates) and cover young plants with wire netting as birds will injure the new foliage. This flower can be planted in a mixed border or in containers. It is also a fine flower for cutting. WHEN STORMS COME ... it's too late to mend a LEAKY ROOF!
