"Cube Steaks" from freezer to table in 3½ minutes—when you cook electrically! Today nothing cooks faster than a modern electric range. From a cold start with a cold pan, frozen steaks are ready to eat in 3½ minutes. Hot soup takes 68 seconds. Bacon and eggs, 3½ minutes. Fry, bake, broil or roast — electricity does it better. There's more: your kitchen is far cooler. And cleaner. Pots and pans stay mirror-bright. Kitchen walls look fresh much longer. After the warranty on your range expires, Edison services it free — charges only for parts, if needed. If you're still cooking the old way, it's simply because you haven't seen the new '56 electric ranges at your appliance dealer's. Why not visit him this week and see how easy modern cooking can be? LAW IN ACTION EMERGENCIES By wise advice and planning you can prevent most legal troubles, but emergencies do take place sometimes—an accident, an arrest, a law suit, or an investigation by some government agency. In an emergency you need two things: 1. To gather accurate facts, and 2. To take proper steps (and avoid foolish ones) to protect your interests until you can get proper advice. In an emergency nothing gets twisted so fast as reliable facts. So get all the facts you can on the spot and write them down at once for later use. Or have some one else act and get facts for you if you cannot do so yourself. Many people carry cards for this purpose, giving the names of their doctor, lawyer, kinfolk, friends, or business associates. They ask that these people be notified in an emergency. Notify everyone else concerned as soon as you can; for example, the police, your insurance company, your business associates, and the like. If you do get hurt, have your personal physician look you over, even if you think you aren't hurt badly. Your physician, like your lawyer, can give you confidential advice, which you may need if you are in trouble. What facts should you get? The kind a good news reporter would get: Who? The names, addresses and telephone of everybody involved — who hit you, arrested you, investigated your business, served papers on you; and the witnesses, both friendly and hostile. What happened and exactly where and how it took place in the utmost detail. When—the date, hour, and even the minute may make a big difference. Sign no paper unless you know what it means. If you do sign anything, get an exact copy, even if you must copy it yourself. Watch out for strangers who seek to advise you. Be sure you know whom you are dealing with, whom they represent, and what authority they have. Answer questions of the authorities, but if you are not sure of your facts or feel that you may be damaging your case by answering at once, ask for and get time to refresh your memory or seek advice. Note: California lawyers offer this column for you to know about our laws. CHEF ROBERT KREIS who "tossed salad greens into greenhacks" with the creation of his salad dressing mix also made a major contribution toward the salad's popularity in America. The time may be close at hand when Americans will be eating salads three times a day—even for breakfast! When a famous gourmet recently aired this prediction at a dinner he was giving, his guests tactfully let him know that even the very thought of salad for breakfast was too much for them. It may be many years before this prediction becomes a reality, but there is no question that the salad is playing an ever increasing role on American dinner tables. A major contribution to the "eat-more-salad" campaign was made recently by a 6-foot, 4-inch tall chef from Hollywood California, Robert Kreis. The Kreis contribution is five different salad dressing mixes. These make delightful salad dressings when combined with the exact amounts of oil and vinegar that are prescribed on a bottle which is available with the mixes. Kreis, who was supervising chef of Hollywood's famous Brown Derby Restaurant explains how his Good Seasons salads continually besieged by friends for information on how to make a salad, he obligingly gave instructions, yet everyone complained that their dressings never turned out as good as his. "That got me to thinking," he says, "and I made up my mind to create the perfect blend of salad herbs and spices and package them complete with instructions about the proper proportion of oil and vinegar to use." The ingenious chef added a small easily handled glass shaker to his salad kit. It was clearly marked, indicating so much vinegar and so much oil. This made it very easy to shake up a first class salad dressing. When the mix hit the market, salads had already taken hold in California, and it became popular almost overnight there. Salad dressings were considered so good by General Foods, the world's largest packaging corporation of grocery products, that they decided to add Chef Kreis's Good Seasons Salad Dressing Mix to their "families of SUPPLIES Free as Your Phone Rests in their Line Item to Your Door APPOINTMENT Prints Liquor Store KEIM — KE 5-4438 — LIQUORS — BEERS T. 12:00 • SUN. 8:30 LEE'S For Easy Shopping ING STAMPS Sundays 9 to 5 — KE 5-8431 NG 8 HOUR SERVICE GRANTED PEARSON REes KE 5-1167 — KE 51168 New Stamps SALES & SERVICE ON ALL MAKES & CO. Scientific Nibble, Anyone? There's probably no group of people who are greater weight-watchers than actors and actresses, whether they are in Hollywood, Milan, Tokyo or on Broadway. Here movie and TV star—and one of Hollywood's leading citizens—Ronald Reagan is about to enjoy a mid-morning cup of coffee. Like most of his fellow thespians, he has found that eating between meals gives added energy and actually helps to curb the appetite. Today, nutritionists are calling this type of snack a scientific nibble.
