Watch Out for Lawn Moths
Any housewife feels anger and frustration when some careless member of the family spills big splotches of ink all over her prize livingroom carpet. But her anger is nothing compared to the rage of a man who has spent long, back-breaking hours putting in a lawn—only to see ugly brown patches appearing mysteriously to disfigure his carpet of green grass.
These patches are mysterious because the prolific little pest that causes them is so hard to find—but if you see little moths fly up when you walk across the grass, you've found the culprit.
Bomb With Eggs
At dusk, when you see these moths flying lazily over the grass they are literally "bombing" on lawn with eggs—and unless trot measures are started immediately, those tiny eggs can do lot of damage.
The eggs of the lawn moth develop into young larvae called webworms, and at this stage skeletonize grass blades. They develop into older caterpillars, they cut the blades off pletely. If you watch your carefully, you can first spot moth damage by unevenness or grass, then by dying-back of grass shoots, and finally brown, irregular spots.
Lawn moths used to be difficult to control, but the development of chlordane gives you a witch which counterattacks lawn with deadly effectiveness, does not damage the grass at the same time, chlordane.
