BALBOA B 615 East Balboa H. M. Holk NEWPORT B 3444 Balond A Plants Need Feeding Throughout the Season Plants require food and drink to achieve maximum growth. While the average gardener follows a fairly even irrigation program, a large percentage of home owners actually starve their gardens to death. Dumping a pound of plant food on the ground when an ornamental is planted does not comprise intelligent feeding. It's a matter of applying fertilizer throughout the growing season. The most important factors in a well balanced plant food are nitrogen, phosphorous and potash. And these are the elements most often lacking in the average soil. Every package of fertilizer must by law carry an analysis tag showing the percentage of these important food factors. You should inspect this tag to make certain you are getting all that your plants require. Nitrogen is essential for stem and leaf growth. It is exceedingly important when feeding lawns and vine crops. Phosphorous acids in root development hasten maturity and encourage flower and seed production. Potash also aids in root development and speeds up maturity. Friday, May 13, was a lucky day for two Anaheim families.
