Phyllis Kirchman Weds Dennis Ryan The sanctuary of First Presbyterian church was appointed pink for a wedding ceremony which united Phyllis Ann Kirchman and Dennis Ryan. The Rev. Roland Anderson officiated. Miss Kirchman is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Kirchman of 615 N. Carleton Ave., and the bridegroom is the son of the Rev. Ryans of 709 Grafton Place. As she entered the sanctuary on the arm of her father, bride wore a traditional wedding gown of lace over satin. A pearl crown held a short veil and white orchid centered her nuptial bouquet. Miss Kirchman was attended by maid of honore, Lynn Rae Barry who wore a pink off the shoulder ballerina gown with harmonizing flowers. Barry Ryan attended his brides as best man and ushers with Larry Kirchman and Geoff Bishop. William Talevich was at the organ as the choir sang special wedding music. The Triple Tang "These Lovely Things" "The Lord's Prayer." Following the ceremony a reception was held in the social hall Miss Carol Rutledge invited guests to sign the register. Assisting gifts and with serving were Misses Nancy Dykema and Mrs. Vincent, Mrs. Page Vincent and Mrs. Lloyd Ross. The newly-weds are both graduates of Anaheim Union High School. She attended Fullerton Junior college. They are living in Anaheim and will delay their honeymoon trip until October. A. degree in Art from Stanford University. Her fiance attended Western Military Academy in Illinois and was graduated from Washington University in St. Louis. Progress Made In Smog Fight Completing the first full year of an intensive research program that utilized the laboratories and services of some of the nation's top scientists and spanned a continent, the Air Pollution Foundation, 740 S. Spring St., Los Angeles, announced today that it has materially strengthened and consolidated its scientific front in the battle against smog. The reorganization forces it was explained by Dr. W. L. Faith, vice-president and chief engineer of the Foundation, is in preparation for even more wide-spread smog investigations in the months ahead. The scientist said that the Foundation—an independent, non-profit, non-political organization—has reduced the number of its active research studies from 46 to 34. In the last year, he said that 31 air pollution projects of varying degrees have been completed, and that by the end of 1955 the Foundation will have expended more than $1,250,000 on scientific studies. Dr. Faith said that the completed projects include the Houdry catalytic converter, which the Foundation found is not yet ready to be recommended as a potential smog eliminator for public adoption; plant damage studies; projects for measuring hydrocarbons and oxidants in the air; studies of refinery emissions, aldehydes, and other gases, and the development of a number of new scientific tools to lick smog. Students' Art Work Shown at Franklin P-TA Meeting Miss Lucia Upp, art director for the Anaheim elementary schools presented to the Benjamin Franklin P-TA members an educational display of student work at the May meeting, stressing that the most important single factor in the development of children's art is the sympathetic understanding given by parents. The meeting was highlighted by public appearance of the school's first orchestra. The work of young musician's was under the direction of Ted Bourne. Young Miss Susan Saville entertained with a medley of pianos. Mrs. Luther Reynolds presided at the business meeting at which a new budget was approved. Principal Wilbert Bonney announces that in lieu of graduation exercises for sixth grade students, open air assembly will be held on Flag Day, June 14, when special awards will be made.
