How to honor a hero
It is thrilling to watch the breeze catch the flag as you hang it out on Memorial Day. And it makes you feel good to decorate the monuments to the men this day honors.
Every town in the land has one or more monuments in their memory—bronze soldiers, steel cannon, big granite stones.
But their greatest memorial is one they themselves fought and bled and died to build and preserve: the United States of America.
And the best anybody can do to honor their deeds lies in strengthening and preserving this living memorial, our nation.
You do this most simply and easily when you invest in our country's Savings Bonds. For your ownership of these Bonds not only makes you a more independent American; it also makes America stronger, more stable and secure.
So continue to invest regularly and steadily in United States Series E Savings Bonds, holding them until they pay you their full maturity value.
If you have not been buying Bonds, the day after Memorial Day week end is a good time to begin. Invest now, through the Payroll Savings Plan where you work, or at your bank.

While driving to the Rincon, Thursday, Dr. R. A. Ferguson came near being the victim of a serious accident. In driving down one of the dangerous grades on the so-called road to San Bernardino, one of his horses got frightened and began to kick, ending with getting his foot caught in the single-tree. In his struggles to release himself he fell down and as the road at that point is just wide enough for a wagon to pass, the horse came within a hair's breadth of rolling over the precipice, in which event he would
