At a general meeting of shareholders of the Anaheim Water Co., held on last Saturday, 1559 shares were represented out of a possible 1666. Messrs. Reiser, Korn Dreyfus, Hartung and Melrose were elected a board of Directors for the ensuing year and Mr. Marshal Halight was elected Commissioner. The proposed amendments to the by-laws were adopted and a committee consisting of Messrs. Hartung, Halight and Scott were appointed to examine the books of the various officers. The new board of directors subsequently organized by electing Theodore Reiser president; Ben Dreyfus vice-president; F. A. Korn treasurer and Richard Melrose, secretary.
Gov. Perkins has re-appointed R. W. Scott, Esq., notary public, to reside at Anaheim. G. M. Holiday of Fountain Valley, has also been appointed notary public.
More than one complaint has been made lately of the altogether too common practice of staking horses and cows in such a manner that they obstruct travel on the public thoroughfares. A serious accident from this cause, followed by a heavy suit for damage will occur unless precautions are taken.
We learn that Mr. Bixby has purchased the spars and masts of a yacht that Bishop Mora, of the Diocese has sent to Ireland from his own personal resources, the sum of $1050 to be expended under the auspices of the Catholic church for the relief of the suffering poor of that country.
Capt. George C. Knox has received the appointment as Deputy County Assessor for the territory embracing Anaheim, Garden Grove, Westminster and Centraia. W. R. Caudle of Santa Ana is the Deputy Assessor for that town, Orange and San Juan Capistrano.
Victor Montgomery, Esq., of Anaheim was admitted to practice in the Supreme Court on Monday. The order covering his admission read as follows: "On motion of J. F. Godfrey, Esq., the presentation of license from the Judge of the Third Judicial District of Mississippi and evidence of good moral character, it is ordered that Victor Montgomery be and he hereby is admitted to practice as an attorney and counselor in the Courts of the State."

Articles of incorporation have been filed with the County Clerk for the Anaheim Home Telephone and Telephon Company, two concerns affiliated with the Home Telephone Company of Los Angeles. For each corporation the position as head book-keeper at Dickles and has been succeeded by Harry Armstrong Mr. Ross has been engaged as solicitor and book-keeper for the new gas syndicate.
A very exciting game of basket ball was played on the Grammar school grounds on Friday afternoon between teams from the sixth and seventh grades, resulting in a victory for the latter by a score of 15 to 0. Players from the seventh grade were Annie Schindler, Violet Allen, Rachel Knapp, Annie Weaver, Mabel Betz, Sixth grade, Ellinor Pratt, Olga Lange, Bertha Lagorgue, Elsie Asher, Katie Hayden. Colors: Seventh grade—Blue and White. Sixth: Cream and Purple. Although the sixth grade girls were defeated, they played well and resolved to turn the tables on their opponents the next time they play.
John Selinger was elected second lieutenant of Company E at a meeting of the Company or Thursday evening. Claude Eaton Eugene Adams and Fritz Yung bluth also had supporters for the office among their friends.
The Oil Well boys pulled the game out of the fire on the local grounds on Sunday afternoon when they engaged the Tufts-Lyne ball team in a spirited contest the score being 7 to 6. The largest crowd of the season witnessed the game. Billy Fische informs us that the Young Americans and the Orange team will play here Sunday. The Oil Well lined up as follows:: Lewis, Isbel Meats Burnett, Head, Webb Meurson, Fuequa, Johnson.
More than one complaint has been made lately of the altogether too common practice of staking horses and cows in such a manner that they obstruct travel on the public thoroughfares. A serious accident from this cause, followed by a heavy suit for damage will occur unless precautions are taken.
We learn that Mr. Bixby has purchased the spars and masts of the wrecked Adelaide Cooper and proposes in the near future to erect a wharf at Fayel about half a mile below the new wharf of the steamship company. At the site which Mr. Bixby has elected there is deep water a short distance from the shore and it is in every way an eligible plan for a landing.
A fire in the Dollar store in Los Angeles on Wednesday evening did $6000 worth of damage to the contents.
The earthquake shock at about half-past four on Monday morning was the finest specimen of an earthquake that has been experienced in this county since the ever-memorable one of October 1868, and as such we are proud of it. The shock was of about twenty seconds duration, and while it was not violent, the doors and windows rattled like castanets, however, there has been no damage reported. At 4:40 o'clock Monday morning, Los Angeles was visited by two quite severe shocks. At five minutes past one the heaviest shock of earthquake felt for years, occurred at San Francisco. No damage has been reported although the Nevada block apparently swayed a foot out of perpendicular.
Messrs. Goodman and Rimpau of the Dry Goods Palace keep the finest general assortment of dry goods to be found in the county. And not a week passes without their receiving something new from San Francisco. Call and inspect their stock.

Pierre Nicholas of Fullerton, accompanied by his family will leave shortly for an extended visit in Europe. Mr. Nicholas purchased tickets from Agent Darling of the Southern Pacific a day or two ago giving his check in the sum of $1250. As Mr. Darling was at luncheon with Mr. Nicholas at the latter's residence immediately after the sale of the tickets, two other railroad men appeared at the front door anxious to arrange for the transportation. But they were too late as Mr. Darling had the check in his inside pocket.
Ben Dauser has a force of men busy laying cement foundation and flooring for his grist mill and warehouse opposite the Standard Oil works at Santa Ana and Orange streets. Building operations will consume two months and Mr. Dauster expects to be ready for business in June. He is also erecting a commodious residence on his recently purchased tract and will move over from Fullerton and occupy the same upon its completion. His mill and other omprovements will cost in the negligborhood of $12,000.

Taxpayers' Group Urges Lawmakers To Junk Dam Bills
Branding the Upper Colorado River Basin and Fryingpan Arkansas projects currently before congress as "economically unjustifiable," "financially infeasible," and "wasteful of water." California Taxpayers' association today urged congressman James B. Utt and Senator Thomas H. Kuchel to continue the work they have been doing to defeat those proposals.
The proposals now being urged would cost about $4,000,000,000—or about $372,800,000 for the people of California.
For the 346,500 people of Orange county, this would mean an unnecessary tax cost of $10,044,000, the association declared.
Pointing out that the Upper Basin bills now being pushed in Congress, are not the same as those originally approved by President Eisenhower, the association said:
"Instead of two major dams, the bills now call for a total of six—four more than in the original proposal."
30 New Projects
"Instead of fourteen irrigation projects, there are now 30 proposed—16 additional."
These additions bring the starting cost to $1,600,000,000, instead of the $920,000,000 first discussed.
"Under the proposed 40-year plan of financing, the construction costs and concealed subsidies to be paid by Mrs. George Paige Hostess to County Speakers Forum"
The April meeting of the Orange County Speakers' Forum was held in the Anaheim home of Mrs. George Paige with Mrs. George Wheat and Mrs. H. D. Newkirk assisting the hostess in serving breakfast.
In the absence of the president, Mrs. Leo J. Frils presided at a business meeting before presenting the subject for discussion:

G.M. Sales Top April Record
Retail sales of General Motors passenger cars in the United States during the first 10 days of April were at an all-time high for that period, Harlow H. Curtice, president, announced today.
The record sales during the period April 1-10 followed first quarter sales of new GM passenger cars which were the highest for any quarter in the company's history, Curtice said.
This brought domestic deliveries of new Chevrolets, Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, Buicks, and Cadillacs in 1955 through April 10 to 1,003,821, the highest total ever recorded for this period, and 145.2 per cent of the figure for the same period of 1954.
