TRAVEL SMILES
BY Merry Miles
The child on the Greyhound bus was four, and bright as a cricket. "I can read the signs," she chirped, and demonstrated on the next one we passed. "It says twenty-seven miles."
"What else?" I asked.
"Oh, I can only read how far," she said, "but not where to!"
Everyone likes Greyhound travel because it's so intimate and personal, as well as low in cost. You're close to everything—scenery, people, the towns, cities and countryside.
If you're getting a few days or a couple of weeks off this fall, ask Greyhound for free literature on the latest Merry Miles Vacations. You can go anywhere, because Greyhound serves all 48 states.
There are pre-planned trips in the West, to all the national parks, around the U.S., and also to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Prices are surprisingly low because Greyhotnd fares are so low.
For example, a 13-day vacation to the Pacific Northwest and Canada costs only $111.15, double room rate, per person, plus tax, from Los Angeles. That includes hotel rooms, sightseeing in San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver and Victoria, steamship fares, and travel via Redwood Empire, Oregon Coast and Shasta-Cascade Wonderland. See Greyhound or your travel agent.
So long for now. This is Merry Miles saying, "I'll be seeing you, and you'll be seeing America—best—by Greyhound!"

Scholarships Given By Fisher Body
Eight university scholarships worth $20,000 and another $70,000 in cash and U. S. Savings Bonds are the stakes in the 1955 Fisher Body Craftsmean's Guild model car competition, it was announced today by James P. Wines, secretary of the guild.
Since 1930, the Fisher Body competition has awarded 131 university scholarships valued at $420,500 to national winners. More than $650,000 in cash and other awards have been made to thousands of boys.
The 1955 competition offers the young car designers the opportunity to build sports cars, hardtops, convertibles or station wagons as well as sedans.
Enrollments are being taken now for competition by guild field representatives who are visiting thousands of public and parochial schools throughout the country.
Any boy in the United States of age 12 through 19 is eligible to enter the competition and may obtain enrollment card by writing to the Fisher Body Craftman's Guild, General Motors Building, Detroit 2, Michigan.
A booklet on model car design and construction, the only textbook of its kind for youths wishing to learn about automobile design, is given to each boy enrolling in the guild. It was prepared by professional designers from the General Motors styling section, Fisher Body division engineers, and the technical staff of the Craftsmans' guild. It illustrates, step by step, how to build the model.
Sons of General Motors employees (including dealers and their employees) are eligible to enter the competition. Duplicate awards are made if the son of a GM employee wins.
The Craftsmans' guild is an organization for the development of

Fremont School Hi-Y Clubs to be Reorganized
The Junior Hi-Y Clubs of Fremont school will be reorganized tonight at 7 o'clock at the Anaheim YMCA, according to John Bertch and Dwile Haggem of the "Y" staff.
More than 175 boys attended an initial gathering last Thursday at the "Y" and indicate a desire to get into a Junior Hi-Y club. Four clubs have carried over from last year: The Warriors, under the leadership of Walt Taylor and Roger Pannier; the Y's Guys under the leadership of Bill Cullen; the Panthers, with Leo Oden; and the Wolves, for whom a new leader is needed to succeed Eldon Hauck, who is away for a year's advanced study. Several new clubs, in addition to the above, will meet to be organized to meet the needs. Clyde Vineyard and Hal Carlisle, both of the Fremont faculty, are the new leaders for these clubs.
