War Hero to Speak At First Baptist Sat. Louis Zamperini will be the guest speaker at the First Baptist Church's Father and Son banquet, Saturday, June 5. The story of Capt. Louis Zamperini was picked (by U. S. Air Force Public Relations Dept.) as one of the best and most exciting stories to come out of World War II. Zamperini, Olympic track star and world's champion runner, during the 1936 Olympics in Berlin almost created an International Incident when he tore down Adolf Hitler's private swastika from in front of Hitler's Chancellery. During World War II he was better known as the Army Air Force Captain who crashed at sea and spent 47 days adrift on a small rubber life raft and 2½ years as a P.O.W. in Japan. In a starving condition he was forced to run against well-fed Japanese runners. Due to his disappearance, and consequently being officially declared dead, he now has an Army Air Force Field named in his honor, and an athletic event at the Madison Square Garden, New York. Just recently, Louis returned to Japan to bring the Christian message to those who inflicted atrocities upon him. He once vowed never to return to that country of unpleasant memories, but he said, "God burdened my heart, to even seeking the very guards who were directly responsible for my punishments." He told them of the love of God, the forgiving and redeeming power of our Lord Jesus Christ. 'Class Rooms Vital Issue', Says Coons "Anaheim Elementary Schools will need 50 additional classrooms during the next 5 years if we are to avoid double sessions," Board President Rex Coons announced today. "By next September," Mr. Coons continued, "the Board of Education will have added 36 classrooms to the system and we believe that if the funds requested in the elementary bond election to be held on June 16, 1954, are approved, it will enable us to provide adequate facilities, equal to those which the people of Anaheim have provided in the past." "We believe that good schools without frills are what our parents and patrons want," Mr. Coons added, "and we cordially invite the voters in Anaheim to acquaint themselves with our program, ether by calling at the Chamber of Commerce or at our administrative offices." MORE ABOUT Oblong Views (Continued from Page 1) Joyable was the fact that it lasted for two and one-half hours, and the amount of food consumed was enormous although no one felt stuffed. The traditional tropical siesta following the meal we took in hammocks over which hung real, live orchids, and we were lulled to sleep by the lilting song of brightly-plumed tropical birds. Now that, friend, is the way to eat a meal. I am going to think about it while I scowl at that same old menu down at the local eatery this noon, and while I am bolting down a hot "lunch", fighting, as usual, against that grim, inexorable thing called time, so that I can get back to the mad scramble for another dollar which like as not, I may have to spend on some quack anti-acid formula for eating too fast. or DOUBLE your money back!
