ESTRADA IN OKINAWA
Okinawa was again the scene of a Leatherneck amphibious assault when the 3rd Marine Division's 9th regimental combat team "took" the island from a mock enemy during the recent "Operation Lotus."
Gilbert A. Estrada, son of Mrs. Guadalupe A. Estrada of 1150 Parry st., Anaheim, Calif., was in the mock attack.

HOLY WEEK SERVICES OBSERVED
Many Holy Week services were held this last week at Grace Lutheran. Lenten Worship was held April 14; Holy Communion, April 15 at 10:00 a.m. Good Friday Prayer and Meditation, April 16, at 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., at Grace Lutheran, and a Lutheran County-wide service at St. Peter's Lutheran in Santa Ana from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., with Rev. H.F. Stief preaching at 1:40 p.m.
Grace Lutheran Church observed Easter Sunday at its two regular services and the Congregation at Study.
"He Lives! My Redeemer," taken from I Peter 1: 3-9, was the day. Special music sung by the senior choir included a quartet at the 8:15 worship service, they sung "He is Risen." At the 10:45 worship service the complete choir sang "The Holy City."
The congregation at study featured special visual programs for the children and adults. The nursery through kindergarten children saw "The Resurrection."
Mrs. Schwartz Feted On 80th Birthday
Mrs. Johanne Schwartz of 552 E. Sycamore St., was feted on the recent occasion of her 80th birthday when her children and grandchildren gathered in her home to shower her with gifts and flowers. Mrs. Schwartz held open hours and enjoyed a buffet supper with friends and family.
The affair was in reality a family re-union, two sons and five daughters and their families made the trip from points east to congratulate their mother. They were Mr. and Mrs. A. Schwartz and Karen; Mr. and Mrs. Ernst Schwartz and Mr. and Mrs. R. Fritchman, all of Chappell, Nebula; Mrs H. Von Behren of Kearney Neb.; Mrs Ed Hein of Hershey Neb.; Mrs M. Loper of Pineville Ore.; Mr. and Mrs Chester Witchel and son Jobe of Hermosa Beach and Mrs. Alvin Schwartz and Ivan Shirley of Anaheim.
The home was beautifully decorated with spring flowers as the feminine members of the family acted as hostesses.
Rudolph Completes Army X-Ray Course
Pvt. Ronald V. Rudolph, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.T.Rudolph, 813 Alamo, Anahiem, Calif., has completed the Medical Field Service School's 16-week X-Ray Procedures Course at Brooks Army Medical Center and has been transferred to Madigan Army Hospital Tacoma, Wash.
X-ray technicians are trained in the operation of all types of X-ray equipment and the processing of X-ray plates. The training a student receives in this course can lead to a future career in medical imaging technology.

It's a girl for Mr. and Mrs. Hideo Okumura 1302 Claremont st. Their 5-lb. 8-oz. girl was born in St. Joseph hospital on April 16.
HOME DEPARTMENT TUESDAY
The Anaheim Home Department will meet at the home of Mrs. Edna L. Mills, 1219 Santa Anita street, on Tuesday, April 27. Project leaders are Mrs. A. E. Wieczorek and Mrs. Paul Nadorff. Mrs. Prunella Nay Abbott will give a demonstration on "Flower Arrangement."
ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED
The engagement of Margaret Ann Ganahl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest F. Ganahl of 501 N.Clementine, and Joseph F. Concannon, Jr.; son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Concannon of Livermorland and San Francisco, was announced at the annual Ganahl family dinner parter, Easter Sunday. An early summer wedding is planned.
The engaged couple are both third generation members of prominent California families. Miss Ganahl is a graduate of Immaculate Heart High school and Stanford University. She is a teacher at Broadway school and is president of the newly formed Junior Assistance League. Her fiance is a graduate of Notre Dame and has just completed two years of service with the U.S.Air Force in Japan. They are making plans to make their first home in northern California where the bridegroom-elect is associated with his father in the operative Army X-Ray Course.

Mrs. Agatha Beninato, 407 Palm St., has announced the engagement of her daughter, Gloria to Ernest A. Bednar, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bednar of Brainerd, Minn. Miss Beninato is a graduate of Marywood and Fulerton Junior College and will marry a member of the U.S.Marine Corps, presently stationed in Memphis, Tenn.

High speed accuracy in short-hand was the requirement for certificates awarded last week to Fullerton Junior College students by the Division of Business Education.
Jeannette Koss of Anaheim received an award for the highest speed, 120 words per minute. Certificates were also awarded local students Pat Frahm and Luella Stephenson.
HOUSEMAKERS BULLETIN
A new bulletin, "Golden Fruit of the Golden West," is available for Orange County homemakers through the University of California Agricultural Extension Service says Marian Prentiss, Home Advisor.

"The Robe" will be presented by Fullerton Junior College drama department April 26-May 1. Among the student actors to appear in the play are Bill Pixler, Chuck Lawrence, Bob Calvo, Manuel Alonzo, Marion Caracausa, Judy Mills and Carole Dawson, all of Anaheim.
Loretta Lassley of Anaheim has been elected secretary of Fullerton Junior College Future Business Leaders of America chapter, and is planning to attend the FBLA state convention in Sacramento April 30-May 1.
Schwartz Feted 80th Birthday

Ronald V. Rudolph, son of Mrs. C. T. Rudolph, 8131 Anaheim, Calif., has completed the Medical Field Service for 16-week X-Ray Procedure at Brooks Army Med Center and has been transferred to Madigan Army Hospital, Wash.
Technicians are trained operation of all types of equipment and the process-X-ray plates. The training received in this course is futuristic.
Medical Women's Panel Slated May 4
The Woman's Auxiliary to the Orange County Medical association will meet May 4 at 10 a.m. in the home of Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Gendel of 11711 Altura Drive, Fullerton. Members are urged to attend this breakfast meeting, as a nurse recruitment panel will be featured.
This panel covers the nursing field very adequately and will appear in uniform. It will include an instructor of nurses, a student nurse from Orange County hospital, a Public Health nurse, and a vocational nurse. Mrs. Joseph Tirico, president, will be the moderator. This will be their 12th appearance before clubs, schools, and organizations.
PANHELLENIC SCHOLARSHIP
The Northern Orange County Panhellenic Association is making available a scholarship to a senior high school girl with good scholastic standing who needs financial assistance for further education.
Applications for this scholarship may be obtained at AUHS office not later than April 25.
The recipient of this award will be the guest of honor at Panhellenics' annual tea which will be held in the home of Mrs. Coalson Morris on May 2.

Attend Conference In Hawaiian Univ.
The Rev. Frank E. Butterworth of White Temple Methodist church left by plane on Tuesday, April 20, for Hawaii. He was one of five pastors chosen from the local Conference to serve on an evangelistic team to spend two weeks in the islands.
Rev. Butterworth will take part in preaching missions and visitation campaigns to be conducted in all the Methodist churches on the eight islands under the sponsorship of the General Board of Evangelism. He will spend the first week working with Methodist students at the student center at the University of Hawaii, and the second week will over to the big island for plantation church work, returning home on May 7.
JEAN CIRCLE MEETS
The Jean Circle of White Temple Methodist church gained insight into the mission field of India last week as the group heard the book, "House of Earth," reviewed by Mrs. Elmer Hamilton. The meeting was held at the home of Meryle Osborn, 128 N. Rose St. Jean Heilman presided at a brief business session during which a nominating committee was named. Jackie Messnard gave devotions. Among those attending were Esther David, Linda Pryor, Becky Smith, Laverne Gushwa, Kitty Linch, Elizabeth Cheatum, Jean Freeman, Marjorie Fackiner, Margaret Blue, Anne Carter and Beverly Montague.

20-20 ANNS ENJOYED PROGRESSIVE DINNER
The Anaheim 20-30 Anna enjoyed a progressive dinner at the recent social meeting which began with the cocktail course at the home of Mrs. Jack Gledhill, clad advisor, Mrs. Dick Pontepin served the soup course and the salad course was served at the home of Mrs. Bob Muckenthale.
Club president, Mrs. Don Ruyon, was hostess for the main course and dessert, and led the business session which followed.
Plans were made for a Mother's Day dinner to be held in Dorothy-Wade dinner house on May 11. Each member is to bring her mother or a "mother substitute."
Anaheim Women and District Meeting
The semi-annual YLI District Council meeting was held recently in San Clemente and was attended by Anaheim YLI representative Mary Jean Lambert, Margaret Block, Anne Treanor and Elsa Benner.
Adopted as a new project for District 17 was Father Stadler home in Banning for underprivileged children. Appointed to a committee to investigate this project were Mary Jean Lambert Blanche Hudson, Lorraine Reve Bonnie Jolissaint and Elsie Benner, all of the Anaheim Institute.
