Bobby Mills has been down from Los Angeles during the week on a vacation. On Saturday he formed one of a party of hunters who went up River Canyon in search of quail. Others in the party were Eddie Boege, and Nick Hugo. The boys drove up the canyon and at night turned in under the trees. Sixty birds were bagged on the trip. Quall are reported as scarce in the canyon, the largest covies numbering not to exceed 20 birds. Senator Jones was a business visitor in town this week. He states that beet shipments from this county aggregate 15,000 tons, the bulk going to China, but shipments are now going to Oxnard. Five thousand tons remain to be forwarded. From Compton 40,000 tons will have been shipped by the close of the season, which will probably be next week. Miss Anna Knapp died at her home in Katella last Wednesday. Her death makes the third in her family within a year, her father, Peter Knapp, having died last January and a brother several weeks later. Miss Knapp was 20 years of age and was a student at Anaheim High School and would have graduated next year. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. H. Chapman. The pall bearers were Georgege Christensen, Hermann Christensen, Theodore Dickel, Fayette Lewis, James Nelson and Edgar Hartung. 75 Years Ago January, 1879 The Board of Town Trustees met in regular session yesterday. A committee composed of Messrs. Kirby and Boege was appointed to ascertain the cost of sufficient land for a reservoir capable of holding one million gallons of water and requested to report at a meeting to be held next Friday. The Board of Public Improvements was instructed to have a bridge built between Weymier's and Werder's vineyards. Taxes to the amount of $1300 were reported collected and the board deferred action in the matter of publishing delinquent list until next Friday. Almost $450 are delinquent. The committee on sidewalks reported that the necessary deeds had been drawn up and will be ready for signatures shortly. The new school house will be open to inspection of visitors on Monday afternoon, between the hours of 2 and 5 o'clock. There will be a pleasant time at the social tomorrow evening at the home of Rev. A.G.L. Trew. The invitation is not limited to members of the Episcopal congregation, but includes the community generally. MARRIED—In Los Angeles, December 28th, by the Rev.
