5 Anaheim Gazette THURSDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1932 ANAHEIM-CALIFORNIA Couple Married on Bride’s Parents 25th Anniversary Miss Dorothy L. Spencer and William Edward Billow exchanged marriage vows Nov. 26. Their nuptials were solitized at 10 Velock in St. Mary’s Catholic church in Fullerton by the Rev. J. Augustine Gorman. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Spencer of Fullerton, the bride was given in marriage by her father and was lovely in a chapel length gown of white shantung taffeta. The occasion was especially meaningful to the Spencer family since it marked the silver anniversary of the bride’s parents. Miss Spencer was attended by Miss Jeanne Theille, who, as maid of honor was gowned in gold color taffeta. Bridesmaids Mrs. Dianne McGoly and Miss Joan Haver wore identical gowns of bottle green. These attendants and soloist, Miss Terry Martin, were chassmates of the bride at the Queen of Angeles College of Nursing. The bride carried a white prayer book and an arrangement of white butterfly orchids while her attendants carried yellow spider chrysanthemums tied with green and gold ribbons. The bridegroom is the son of the late Frank Billow and Mrs. Billow of 844 S. Lemon st. Joseph Szuba attended him as best man. Ushers were Thomas Spencer of newly-weds and to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer’s wedding day. Accordingly, there were two “bride” tables, each centered with a cake. Both cakes were cut with sentimental ceremony. Mrs. Spencer was lovely in a brown velvet gown with pink accessories. Her brown cymbidium orchid corsage was tied with silver Hibbon. For her son’s wedding, Mrs. Billow chose a turquoise gown with pink accessories and wore a harmonizing corsage of orchids. The new Mr. and Mrs. Billow departed on a honeycomb trip to Apple Valley and will return on Dec. 10 to make their home in Santa Ana. The bride is a registered nurse at the Orange County hospital and her husband is a dental technician at the Garden Grove dental laboratory. Fuschia Society Elects Officers Gene Hedriek was elected president of the Orange County branch of the National Fuschia society at the latest meeting held in American Legion hall. According to newly appointed press secretary, Mrs. Stella Filer, outgoing presi- Footlighters to Present Play in Hollywood Church The M.Y.F. Footlighters troupe of White Temple Methodist church last week presented its late three-act comedy, "The Fras Porch," in the First Methodist church of Hollywood. A recent premiere performance at a meeting of the Palomar Methodist Union in South Ocean side received widespread favorable comment. The Footlighters will journey to the mountain community of Idylwil soon to present the play in the Idylwild Community church, and in January we give a performance in a suburb of San Diego. The local perio- once is scheduled for Dec. 27, White Temple. Directed by their pastor, the Rev. Frank E. Butterworth, the Footlighters have won national recognition for their high call to drama produced on road show through four western states. "Theatre Arts" Magazine regularly lists their productions, an hour not generally enjoyed by a group of teenagers. The current vehicle has been under rehearsal for three months. It is a merry story of the contest between frustration and contentment in the lives of a typical American family and its neighbor. In line with the established policy of constantly giving new people an opportunity to develop in personality through the medium of the drama program of the church. Usher were Thomas Spencer of Fullerton, Kenneth Kapaner of Anaheim and John Mitchell, Jr. of Long Beech. Mrs. Lester Semans was at the organ for the wedding music and accompanied Miss Martin who sang "Ava Maria," "The Lord's Prayer," and "Panis Angelicus." Double Reception Following the ceremony, a double reception was held at Capilla de San Antonio to honor the Oxnam Comes To California At the call of Bishop Gerald Kennedy, local Methodists will send Rev. Frank Butterworth and E.S. Williamson of White Temple and Rev. Wm. McKinley Walker and Mrs. Ludwig Schurman of Wesley, as official delegates to a special session of the annual Southern California-Arizona Conference to be held in Los Angeles, Dec. 18. This is the first time in the history of that group that there has been occasion for a mid-year session. One object of the gathering is to have a legal majority take action on a grant of $437,000 from the Hill-Burton Hospital Construction Act funds for a proposed hospital at Arcadia. Several other property matters involving amendments to Articles of Incorporation also are slated for consideration and action. A high-light of the occasion will be the appearance of Bishop Bromley Oxnam. Conference officials and resident bishop Kennedy have invited Bishop Oxnam, who serves the Washington Episcopal Area, to deliver two "Bill-of-Rights-Week" addresses. He will first speak at noon, Dec. 18, at Pacific Coast Club in Long Beach on the topic "The Struggle for the Minds of Men." The same evening he will appear before a mass meeting at Los Angeles First Methodist church under the auspices of the Conference that meets during the day at the same place, and will Fuschia Society Elects Officers Gene Hedriek was elected president of the Orange County branch of the National Fuschia society at the latest meeting held in American Legion hall. According to newly appointed press secretary, Mrs. Stelja Filer, outgoing president Martin Lumsden was named national representative; Erick Horner, vice-president and Mrs. Clyde Jackson, secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Jackson introduced the speaker of the evening, Dr. C.B. Houghton, Long Beach pathologist, who spoke on metropolitan water in relation to gardening and how gypsum could be used to counteract some of its deficiencies. Martin Lumsden presented the traditional birthday plants which were bedding begonias grown in Hedricks garden from seed imported from Germany. Bishop Oxnam was denied the use of an auditorium in Los Angeles some weeks ago; the management claiming that he was a "too controversial" personality. In the denominational weekly that comes to local Methodist families, the bishop explained he had never planned to be in California at the time they proclaimed the ban. Bishop Oxnam has had an almost unanimous support from the newspapers of the U.S., during his dealings with the Un-American Committee. He was cleared of suspicion by the Velde Committee and is recognized by informed persons as an active foe to Communism. He has pointed out in his writings the vicious elements in the Soviet program. Members of the chair range in age from 8 to 14 years and represent many races and creeds. They sang the Christmas songs in 12 different languages and have scheduled 4 costume changes. According to the program chairman, Mrs. George La Follette, there will be no business meeting. The program will begin at the Ebell clubhouse at 2 o'clock and will be followed with the tea that has come to be traditional at this season.
