Christian Science Lesson in God's Preserving Power The promises of help and protection found in the Scriptures are ever in process of fulfillment. So says the Lesson-Sermon on "God the Preserver of Man" in all Christian Science churches Sunday. The Golden Text is from Psalms (40:11), "Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me. O Lord; let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me." The restoration of Eutychus to life by Paul is in the Lesson (Acts 20:9,10,12). It is related that he "fell down from the third loft, and was taken up read. Anr Paul went down, and fell on him and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him . And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted." Mary Baker Eddy admonishes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:" "When an accident happens, you think or exclaim, 'I am hurt!' Your thought is more powerful than your words, more powerful than the accident itself, to make the injury real. Now reverse the process. Declare that you are not hurt and understand the reason why, and you will find the ensuing good effects to be in exact proportion to your disbelief in physics, and your fidelity to divine metaphysics, confidence in God as All, which the Scriptures declare Him to be" (p. 397). Christmas Mail For the convenience of our patrons, the post office windows will be open for the mailing of parcels and the sale of stamps until 5 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 12 and 19. The money order and registry windows will close at noon as usual on both days. LOUIS H. HOSKINS, Postmaster. Phone Rate Raise Amendment Filed Pacific Telephone today filed an amendment to its application for statewide rate increases now before the California Public Utilities Commission. "The amendment is made necessary by further cost increases since our original application was filed on Dec. 10, 1952. These costs are principally in wage increases under contracts negotiated during the current year," said H. I. Perry, telephone manager here. "Our costs have been going steadily, but rates have not changed since 1951. With this amendment, the total rate increase sought will average statewide about four cents a day per telephone." Time Changed The Christmas program for Broadway PTA scheduled for December 15 in Thomas Jefferson auditorium will be held in Broadway school, 1:30 p.m. the same day. New Chevrolet December 18 Chevrolet introduces its 1954 model passenger cars Friday, December 18. More than 7000 retail dealers nationally will display a variety of body styles in events that range from annual open houses to elaborate entertainment programs. The showings come near the close of one of the company's most successful years. A statement by W. E. Fish, general sales manager, reported 1953 retail sales will be topped only by the record-breaking volume of 1950, once again out-selling all other automotive makes." Fish described the new models as "greatly improved" and "if successors to the cars that have led the industry in sales for 18 of the last 19 years." "This is a record of popularity," he pointed out "that can be matched by few products of any kind in the last quarter century's highly competitive American markets." The dealer exhibits will be held simultaneously across the country and follow the 1953 model pattern when two days rather than one were designated for "announcement showings." Introductions will benefit from a broadscale advertising program which the company plans to continue throughout next year.
