Salvation Army Christmas Plans
The Salvation Army Social Service Center which serves this area is stepping up its activities in preparation for busy Christmas activities.
"During the Christmas season we always have a veritable flood of requests for children's clothing, toys, dolls, tricycles, bicycles, story books, table games and other items which bring happiness and cheer to less fortunate children whose parents do not have the money to buy new articles," said Brigadier Ranson D. Gifford, manager of the center.
He said repairable articles which local residents contribute will be reconditioned in the center's workshops. This provides occupational therapy for homeless and handicapped men who are being rehabilitated through the Salvation Army's program. Brigadier Gifford urged local residents to telephone KE-5-4631 to bring a familiar Red Shield truck to home or office to pick up castoff articles.
With unemployment on the upswing, we realize there will be a corresponding upward trend in requests for assistance and we will do our utmost to meet that need," the Salvation Army leader said.
Starting Thursday, Dec. 17, nightly programs embracing the meaning and spirit of Christmas will be presented for the men at the social service center. The week will be climaxed with a huge Christmas dinner and program.
