White Temple Circles View Films On Current Community Chest Drive
Reflecting a trend of increased church activity by Anaheim Women, a circle of young married women of White Temple Methodist church met for the first time last Tuesday evening in two groups instead of one. Private homes no longer accommodate the combined turnout.
The Jean Circle met at the home of Mrs. Richard Heilman, 10332 Euclid ave., while the LaVernie circle met at the home of Mrs. James Jensen, 10073 S. 101 Highway.
Each circle held a business meeting conducted by its president who also was hostess for the evening, and each enjoyed a program based upon the Community Chest movement and its value to the community. A most interesting 20-minute film showing the work of the Community Chest in Orange county was provided by the Rev. Al Casebeer of the Church of Christ and presented by Wayne Baldwin of the audio-visual committee of White Temple.
Among those attending the Jean Circle were Mmes. Sterling Morton, Paul David, Jeff Eaton, Keith White, Dutz Hilbers, Jim Messnard Ralph Osborne and Robert Fackiner.
Among those at the LaVernie Circle were Mmes. Wayne Held, Holly Heller, Marlin Hoehn, John Laituri, Gerald Norton, Howard Sauers, Jim Wheldon, Cecil Whitfield, Robert Turner and Gene Mahaffey.
No Salvation in Matter, Sunday Lesson Points out
Salvation is not to be found in reliance on materiality but through spiritual understanding of God, good, declares the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "Matter" in all Christian Science churches.
The Golden Text is from Hosea (1:17): "I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them by bow nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen."

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes, "God is more to a man than his belief, and the less we acknowledge matter or its laws, the more immortality we possess. Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered. Correct material belief by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form you anew" (p. 425).
The Christian Science church will present the program on the "Light of Faith" series telecast by Station KNXT, Sunday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m.
The program, entitled "A Constructive Approach" will be conducted by Enid Bennett Nible, Hazel W. Houseman, and Wallace Moir, with Wesley B. Tourtelotte at the organ. It will be under the auspices of the Christian Science Committee on Publication for Southern California.

In the Lesson-Sermon this famous statement from Zechariah (4:6) appears, "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts." This follows the account of the instantaneous healing by Christ Jesus of the impotent man at the pool of Bethesda. "Jesus saith unto him, Rise take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked" (John 5:59).

Ceremonies at Capilla Wed Miss Charme Vandiver to John S. Paul
The picturesque garden chapel at Capilla de San Antonio was the setting for the outdoor wedding ceremonies Saturday evening which united in marriage Miss Charme Vandiver and John S. Paul, both of Anaheim.
The Rev. William Howard of the Cypress Nazarene church performed the ceremony by candle light. The aisle posts and altar were beautifully decorated with pink gladioli, white delphinium, palms, and tall candelabra.
The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herb L. Orban of Westminster, wore a ballerina length gown of pale blue satin and lace. She carried a prayer book and an arrangement of blue delphinium, white orchids and stephanotis.
Her only attendant was matron of honor Mrs. A. Fitzgerald of Anaheim. Mrs. Fitzgerald's off-the-shoulder gown was of vivid pink taffeta, ballerina length.
The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Paul of Selma, chose Kenneth A. Parsons as best man. Al Fitzgerald and Jack Rees were ushers.
Mrs. Clara Faust was at the organ and accompanied William Packflier who sang "Yours Is My Heart Alone," and "The Lord's Prayer."
Garden Reception
Following the wedding ceremony some 100 wedding guests gathered in the reception garden. Mrs. Bud Strong presided at the guest book.
For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Orban wore a gown of rose-color lace. The bridegroom's mother chose a lace-trimmed gown of pale pink. Both mothers wore corages of pink rose buds.
When the new Mr. and Mrs. Paul left the Orban home for a honeymoon trip to Twin Lakes, Reno, and Lake Tahoe, the bride was wearing a fashionable brown suit with alligator shoes and purse and beige hat and gloves.
Upon their return, the couple will make their home at 821½ East st.
The bride will continue her work with the Anaheim branch of the Southern Counties Gas Co. Her husband is purchasing agent for Northrop Aircraft, Anaheim division.

Joanne Heald Honored at Series Of Pre-Wedding Showers, Parties
Miss Joanne Heald, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard S. Heald of 11341 Katella ave., has been honored with several gay pre-nuptial parties lately. Miss Heald will become the bride of Carey C. Oliver II in a garden wedding at the Heald home on Sept. 27.
Her aunt, Mrs. Roger Heald of Long Beach, gave a kitchen shower on Aug. 14 to which 15 of Miss Heald's close friends were invited. One of the highlights of the affair was the unusual table centerpiece, an antique Bavarian scale which was filled with tiny pink rose buds.
On Sept. 3, Mrs. Fern Schiller was hostess at a linen shower held in the spacious den of the Heald home. Twenty-two guests showered Miss Heald with exquisite gifts. Special decoration was a unique wedding scene arranged on a long table banked with deep maroon coxcomb. In the scene a miniature bride and groom were seen emerging from a brightly lighted church to the strains of a wedding march.
On Tuesday evening, Mrs. Edward Wijllits gave a miscellaneous bridal shower at her home in Long Beach. She is president of the state auxiliary of plumbing contractors, the organization of which Miss Heald's father is state president, and invited the 30 members of the auxiliary to attend the party.
Last night, two members of the wedding party, Miss Carol Rasmussen and Miss Ruth Blurton entertained with a miscellaneous shower at the Blurton home in Long Beach.
Special guests at each party were the mother of the bride-elect and her maternal grand-aunt.

First Assistance League Meeting Held at Newport
Under the leadership of Mrs. C. A. Neighbors, the Assistance League of Anaheim convened for the first meeting of the fall season at the charming Newport Beach home of Mrs. John Wilson fast week.
Co-hostesses for the luncheon which preceded the business session were Mrs. Charles Harveson and Mrs. W. W. Barnett.
All members were urged to make reservations by Oct. 1 for the national convention slated for Southern California headquarters in Hollywood.
Plans were discussed for starting a fund to help support the proposed hospital in the Anaheim area. The League unanimously favors a project to help this effort.
The main discussion of the afternoon centered around progress reports of various committees working on the Farmers' Market and Bazaar to be held Dec. 8 in the American Legion hall on N. Lemon st. It is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. till 10 p.m. and will feature a luncheon booth and snack bar as well as an evening buffet.
