Harling-Asplund Vows Exchanged In White Temple Church Sunday
Wearing a wedding gown of nylon tulle with an overskirt of Chantilly lace, Miss Mildred Harling was a lovely bride when she said her marriage vows with Howard F. Asplund at four oclock on Sunday afternoon in the White Temple Methodist church. Two hundred-fifty wedding guests saw the Rev. Frank E. Butterworth perform the ceremony in the sanctuary decorated with white gladioli, stock and potted palms. The path of the wedding party was marked with satin bows and streamers.
As the stately bride came down the aisle, she held a nosegay of pink rose buds and stephanotis, traditional accent for her floor-length wedding gown with snug bodice bouffant skirt. Her short veil fell from a halo of fresh orange blossoms. They were from the grove of Dr. and Mrs. Max Henderson of Anaheim and had been hand-waxed by Mrs. Henderson, a process which preserved their freshness and fragrance.
At her throat, the bride wore pearls belonging to her grandmother, the late Mrs. Prudy Barker. She also carried her grandmother's lace handkerchief for sentimental reasons.
Miss Harling, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold G. Harling of 401 N. Janas street, was given in marriage by her father.
Attended By Her Sister
Matron of honor was Mrs. Leand Henderson, the bride's sister, who wore a floor length gown soms and white doves made other decorations unnecessary. It was flanked with silver candelabra whose lighted tapers gave a pleasant glow to the late afternoon festivities.
A receiving line formed at the door and was composed of the parents of the newly married pair, the matron of honor, bridesmaid, and very special guest, the groom's cecogenarian grandmother, Mrs. Anna Asplund of Reedly.
The bride's two cousins from Riverside, Miss Sylvia Vanderzyl and Miss Betty Mitchell, were in charge of the punch bowls. Serving the cake were the bride's college chums, Miss Cathryn Russo of Redlands and Mrs. Gordon Mahoney of Anaheim. Mrs. Art Ihnen was in charge of the guest book.
Mrs. Curtis Meade and Mrs. Stanley Clausen, the gifts.
Mrs. Harling wore a frock of aqua faille while Mrs. Asplund wore an afternoon dress of aqua lace. Both mothers wore corsages of pink roses.
Two-Week Honeymoon
For a two-week honeymoon through the mountains of northern California, the bride chose a knit traveling suit of teale blue, accented with white accessories and a corsage of pink rose buds.
The new Mrs. Asplund graduated in the class of '50 from Anaheim Union high school and has attended the University of Redlands for the past three years. She was a member of Alpha Sigma Pi sorority and vice-president of the associated women students association.
She has a teaching position.
