Simple Touches To Brighten Any Breakfast
Why wait 'til the weekend or holiday to make breakfast special? Simple touches can take your meal out of the plain class, making it an outstanding event, says home economist Reba Staggs.
For instance, with the coming of spring have a few fresh flowers from your garden in the center of your table or breakfast bar. Or use a planter of green foliage. Use colorful place mats, the plastic or paper types, if you want to cut down on laundering. To save time for the extra touches, set your breakfast table the evening before.
For a change in your breakfast menu start with a mixture of chilled fruit juices. Vary this with fresh fruit in season, or a compote of fresh fruits or dried fruits. Surprise the family some morning with preserved figs topped with a dash of sour cream.
Bacon and eggs make any breakfast. For a change combine these two foods in a different way. For instance, outline custard cups with bacon strips, then break an egg in each bacon-lined cup. These take only 8 to 10 minutes, cooking in a moderate oven.
Canadian-style bacon, thinly sliced and pan broiled, provides another ideal breakfast meat. Sausage links, country style or patries—lend interest to breakfast. And don't forget the ready helper, chipped beef. Cubed leftover meat—ham, pork, beef or lamb—
Non-Fattening Lunch Box Suggestions
Weight watchers soon develop the knack of planning low calorie meals at home, but the lunch-box poses some problems.
If you really want the scale to go backwards, a well balanced lunch is part of your regime. You will want to use as little salt as possible, and to cut down on the bread and butter so usual in the lunch box.
A nicely seasoned boiled salad dressing or some other type of low calorie dressing is an acceptable substitute for butter when spread clear to the edges of the thin sliced bread you will be using. Your menu pattern will be lean meat or cheese every day, skim milk or buttermilk in the thermos, raw vegetables and fruit perhaps a favorite relish.

The next day this might be varied by a cottage cheese and green pepper salad with rye wafers instead of a sandwich. Special pickles make it more interesting. Round out the meal with stewed apricots or a baked apple.
Hard cooked eggs or pieces of chicken or rabbit are fine substitutes for the sandwich. With these, treat yourself to a small whole wheat roll, a stalk or two of crisp celery and an orange.
Beauty May Be Yours with Little Effort
Milady's world is abloom with new spring coliflures, bared to breezes for all to admire. Is your being admired? If not, maybe you are wondering how some women keep their hair so chic and smooth if this is the case let me tell you a little secret.
Chances are they are using hair sheen cream, a new woman preparation that tames fly-away bristle ends. It adds a satiny lash for extra beauty and contains a rare lanolin derivative in formula which nourishes your hair from root to end without making it "greasy."
Before and after shampoos, manicures and tintings, use a water sheen cream and your hair always be a shining cap of gloss.
Another lovely way to feel spring is to smell like spring fresh, flowery and gay. So try yourself to the sense-tingling lights of solid sticks, they may carried in the purse, can't stay and are handy for touch-ups. You'll find several enchanting scents and the sticks are especially long-lasting. It's a delight way to bask in a delicious fragrance every hour of the day.

Remember, however, to cube the meat in advance, then closely wrap with waxed paper or aluminum foil and store in the refrigerator. This makes it ready to use promptly in the early morning rush. And don't overlook the power of a touch of parsley.
Ascension Day Service Slated At Zion Lutheran
During this week the anniversary of the Ascension of the Lord will be celebrated with special services to be held this evening at 7:30 o'clock at Zion Lutheran church, Pastor E. H. If you tire of the skim milk, try tomato juice for a change. Eat slices of luncheon meat out of hand instead of making a sandwich, and enjoy a fruit salad or cold slaw. When you feel the urge for a sandwich with mixed ingredients, moisten the filling with yogurt instead of mayonnaise.
