Social and Club Activities IRENE JULIAN SOCIETY EDITOR Phone 2206 Nelda Schumacher Feted in Charming Tradition with Lovely Pre-Nuptial Event Miss Nelda Schumacher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob E. Schumacher and bride-elect of Phillip Quarre of Fresno and Palcines was honored with charming distinction last week by three of her mother's friends, in keeping with a tradition. The Greenbrier inn was the setting for a lovely luncheon and linen shower given in Nelda's honor by Mmes. E. E. Bruce, Vincent Bruce and A. D. Erickson, all of Anaheim, who were also hostesses to a layette shower for Mrs. Schumacher prior to Nelda's birth. The dining room was beautifully appointed in soft shades of lavender and grape with a spring May basket theme. Luncheon tables were set in the shape of a lyre, the head table centered with a large basket of stock in various shades of lavender with tullips and illacs in deeper tones of the same color and the guest of honor, her mother and Mrs. Quarre were presented with lavender cymbidium corsages. Individual baskets, miniatures of the centerpiece, were guest-place favors. Guests were Mmes. J. E. Baker, Edward Bimat, John Boege, Frank Braddock, Frank Cain, John Dywer, W. B. De Coursey, Theodore Elmers, Tony Faust, Bernard Flynn, Grace Fochtman, Gallagher, E. F. Ganahl, L. F. Heffner, J. M. Heinz, W. J. M. Heinz, Chris Hick, O. W. Heying, John Kirsch, John Larson, William Le Vecke, Newman Sanford, E. F. Solel, N. J. Stehly, Edward Stofel, Wethered and J. W. Truxaw. Out of town guests, Mrs. Oswald G. Quarre, mother of the bridegroom-elect who came down from her ranch home in Paicines for the occasion and was a house guest of the Schumachers and the Mmes. P. E. Fluor of Fullerton, Walter Golden of Santa Ana, Arnold Kraemer of Las Vegas, Lawrence Kraemer, Victor Lypps and J. D. McDonald of Placentia, Ben-Yorba of Yorba, Harry McDonald of Los Angeles, Glen E. Stilwell of Riverside and Jack Golden, nee Elaine-Schumacher, of Murietta, aunt and sister, respectively, Magnolia P-TA Installs New Officer Panel Magnolia PTA officers installed at the May general meeting were Mrs. Roy Fierce, president; Mrs. William Simmons, first vice president; Mrs. Robert Johnson, recording secretary; Mrs. Hoskins, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Richard Yater, treasurer; Mrs. Veneer Neher, parliamentarian, and Mrs Don Wiley, auditor. Mrs. Arthur Korn acted as instilling officer using as her theme "Flower Baskets." Mrs. John Dudley presented red rose corsages to the new officers. Mrs. Homer Kirk, retiring president, was the recipient of a gift from her board with Mrs. Lenz Allred making the presentation. The eighth grade girls gave an entertaining skit with musical interludes. Tentative date for the box social is June 6 at the home of Mrs. John Brooks and will be open to the public. Mrs. Maxwell, principal, announced that the annual school picnic will be held on May 21 in Irvine park. A public meeting was held Monday, May 11 for an open discussion of disposition of funds should the bond issue carry, which is to be voted May 15. All members are urged to attend in support of the board James Allen and Rex Nierson were appointed to the citizen committee. Hostesses were the Mmes. Homer Dunn, Willey, Orval Elder, Rob ly appointed in soft shades of lavender and grape with a spring May basket theme. At the close of the afternoon a clever alphabet drawing resulted in the winning of attractive basket purses by Mrs. Cass Wethered and Mrs. Stephen Gallagher who held bridegroom-elect who came down from her ranch home in Palicines for the occasion and was a house guest of the Schumachers and the Mmes. Proud Speak on Narcotics The three sophomore Tri-Hi-Y clubs were hostesses to their mothers last week when a joint meeting was held in the YMCA. E. M. (Doc) Proud, assistant director of the juvenile bureau of Orange county gave an interesting and informative talk on the narcotic problem, using a movie as illustration. The Electric-Yers girls were refreshment hostesses. A worship service was held in the Presbyterian church by the senior YQTs with the prelude by Jan Larson and Shirley Pannier giving the call to worship and leading group singing. Glenda Mungerson read a poem of prayer and Jean Schultz one of meditation, with the responsive reading led by Marilyn Hudson. Mrs. Don Chamberlin, club leader, presented a devotional message and the service closed with a benediction by Gertie Glover. The senior Tri-U club met in La Palma Park, held a discussion on etiquette in preparation for the senior formal reception May 12 and later played baseball. Club news for the week discloses election of officers for two freshman Tri-Hi-Y clubs with the Bar-Yettes electing Patsy Kirk, president; Georgia Reeh, vice-president; Norma Kerns, secretary; Donna Heitman, treasurer; Judy Reid, worship chairman and Joan Schwemmer, council repre- Ident; Marian Taylor, secretary; Elizabeth Harberg, treasurer; J. an Fassel, council representative; Darlene Nipp, worship chairman; and Joan Stabbert, public chairman. Cecil of the La Donna Beauty Salon met with the freshman Council nie-Yettes and spoke of appropriate dress and posture which is illustrated by modeling.
