HEN 75 Years Ago Mr. Alex Henry is the most unfortunate of men where it comes to losing horses. On last Thursday night his remaining horse was stolen, and although he has made diligent search the animal cannot be found. This makes the eighth horse that has been stolen from Mr. Henry since his residence here and none of them have ever been recovered. If there is one thing the people of Orangethorpe pride themselves upon, it is their flourishing and firmly established Sabbath school. It is ably conducted and well attended. Mr. A. Guy Smith is the superintendent. The teachers are Mr. Saxton, Mrs. A. Guy Smith, Mrs. Bancroft and Mrs. Cummins. At the solicitation of Mayor Ben C. Truman, H. R. Kusick, super-intendent of the railroad mail service, has officially requested the postoffice department to place a postal car and route agent between Los Angeles and Santa Ana. Childbirth After 40 Presents Little Concern The modern woman who enjoys good health has little to fear from pregnancy in her forties, says Dr. Fritz Kahn, noted physician-author. Today, a woman of forty-five can expect a less painful and less risky delivery than her mother experienced at the age of twenty or twenty-five, he writes in the May issue of the Journal of Living magazine. Modern medicaments will adjust the period of labor according to the expectant mother's health. And the odds of her having a healthy, normal child are greatly in favor of the mature mother-to-be, even though they are not so good as for the younger woman at the peak of the child-bearing period. But whether the late child is to be the first or the last, the prospective mother should keep other things in mind as well as her health, Dr. Kahn declares. She should realize that she will have to give up part of her freedom. Her husband may have added financial cares and responsibilities at an age when he might have planned to be free of them. On the other hand, a late child that is wanted by both parents is an enrichment of marriage and literally a rejuvenation because it brings close contact again with youth. Provided your doctor says you are physically and emotionally in good health, concludes the article. "Expenses, including 150 feet of lumber, $12.421.90, of which $25 has been expended upon the old ditch two miles of which has been widened two feet and deepened two feet. The contract for hauling the lumber has been let to J. B. Pierce to be delivered by April 15. The flume contract has been let to Doane and MacKay of Los Angeles for $7.25 per thousand. It is the intention of the company to have the main ditch finished by May 1. Forty men are employed. In two weeks 20 teams will be employed to excavate with scrapers water will be turned in and flow down the ditch as fast as completed. "The company expects to make two and perhaps three branch ditchs one along the base of the Coyoote hills as far west as the Brea canyon road. The other north of the sand wash north of Anaheim as far west as Col. W. S. Dalys farm and another to cross the sand wash to near L. Parker's place. It is also purposed to increase the capital stock $5-000 by adding 50 shares to the capital stock. "The proposition made to the Anaheim company if they unite with the Cajon company is: If the Anahelm company desires to have any interest in the Cajon irrigation Co. they are invited to take such amount as they please but if they take 50 shares of stock they can have a proportionate amount of the water delivered to them at such a point on the Anaheim ditch as may be agreed upon by the companies." No action has yet been taken by the Anaheim Water Co. toward uniting the two companies."
