George Washington's birthday
Hawaiian Party Compliments Pair On Birthdays
A bit of colorful Hawaii was transplanted in the parish house of St. Michael's church Friday evening when the Ralph Roulands and Mrs. Flora Snbwden entertained in honor of the birthdays of the Rouland's daughter, Doris Jean, and Mrs. Snowden's son, Ronnie.
The palish house was festive with decorations of fishnet, bright flowers, leis and shells, and made a striking background for the gay print dresses and sarongs of the girls, and bright Hawaiian skirts and balboa blues worn by the boys.
Doris and Ronnie presented each guest with a lei and a traditional island greeting.
Dancing was enjoyed throughout the evening in addition to three solo dances by Bettie Ulrich, well known local Hawaiian dancer. A great deal of gaiety resulted when gaily colored balloons were tied on the boys' ankles, for the dance which was to decide the couple to be chosen king and queen, Goldie Barchinger and Bill Lattin, who came through with the only intact balloon were escorted up a flower bedecked ramp leading to the stage where they were crowned king and queen.
Favors were clever little nut cups made from mussle shells and small palm trees. Jello, ice cream and cake in rainbow hues were served in plates of harmonizing colors, with Hawaiian punch and coffee.
The guests of honor sat on the floor, island fashion, to open their many gifts, amid much hilarity and amusing comments.
Also present, in addition to the 38 school friends of the honored pair were the Rev. John K. Saville, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. William Shira.
