All Star Team For City League Set by Managers
The managers of the City Basketball League have chosen their 1952-53 all star team. Each manager selected what he thought were the best 10 players during the current season.
Co-managers for the mythical team were Otto Goedhart of Optimist and Johnny Vuksanovich from the Colter's aggregation.
The best sportsmanship award went to Pete Van Dyke, of the Optimists club.
"Hugh!" Faulkner, the league's leading scorer, and probably the leading rebounder as well, received the majority of votes for the league's most valuable player award.
"Windy" Range of Bob Williams team was runner-up for the award.

Faulkner Leads Santa Anans to Win over TV-ers
Leslie "Hugh" Faulkner returned to Anaheim last night, and lead Santa Ana's All's Sporting Goods team to a thrilling 49-47 win over his home town's team.
The TVers surprised the Santa Ana five by playing an unorthodox zone defense, that stopped the high scoring team from running up their usual high score, but on the other hand the Ballman boys couldn't find the range either, until in the second half. After trailing 17 to 9 in the first quarter the local boys played even with the opposition as Marshall Styll and Jerry Philip began to find their shooting eyes.
The second half found the TVers without the use of their ace rebounder and point getter as "Jumping" Joe Bruce suffered a painful sprained ankle. Going into the last quarter down on the score board by 9 digits the Ballman's gang fought, ran and shot their way to within two points, but could do no more.
Windy Range played a terrific defensive game as he held his 68", 240 pound opponent to five field goals. Roger Pannier, Ira Webber, Jerry Philip and Marshall Styll showed the hustle that only comes from the desire to win. Captain Bill Walker was quoted as saying "We were out-manned, but never out-hustled."

Williams Quintet Wins City League, Playoffs Awaited
The Bob Williams basketball team seemed that perhaps Merryman would win. Then came what objection.
ARCADIA UP—Chanlea, a gallant young son of Kentucky and money rider Eddie Arcano combined talents Saturday to capture the famed $100,000 Santa Anita derby for the second straight year for the Calumet farm of the Blue Grass country.
Chanlea, given one of of Arcaro's most artistic rides, outpointed two amazingly stubborn, longshot foes, Merryman and Correspondent, in a driving finish to the wire to the $84,500 first monkey by a nose.
This was the 16th running of Santa Anita's big attraction for the 3-year-old division, and it will go down as one of the most exciting.
Fifty five thousand fans watched the head to head battle down the final strides to the wire, and while it took a photo to separate the three, there was never any doubt from the observers at the finish line that the victory belonged to Calumet.
Decorated, the favorite—in what amounted to a betting duel with Chanlea—finished ninth and was never a serious threat.
Time for the mile and one eighth race was good — 1:49:45
Chanlea rewarded the bet Calumet backers with $7, $3.80 and $3.40. Merryman paid $12.80 and $8.70 and Correspondent $7.40.
Merryman, a California colt, is owned by two tuna fishing magnates of San Diego, John and Ed Murraga, and Correspondent is owned by Mrs. Gordon Gulberson of La Jolla, Calif.
Merryman won $20,000 for second place; Correspondent $15,000 and the Springhill Stable's De Anza, another California bred, earned $19,000 for fourth money.
Eleven colts shook loose from the starting gate.
Around the clubhouse turn and into the backstretch the pack raced, and it appeared that Correspondent might go on to steal the affair.
Arcaro dropped Chanlea wisely back before the furious pace to fifth place, but began to move up on the outside going down the back stretch.
Coming into the stretch it was still Correspondent on top with Chanlea driving just short behind, and on came the throat of Merryman and his rider, Ray York.
That's when it became a three horse race instead of the anticapped two-horse-bettle between Chanlea and Andrew Chevlin's two-time victor. Decorated.
Fifty yards from the finish it seemed that perhaps Merryman would win. Then came what objection.
