Bud Mahoneys are perfectly at home in their modern manor at 1212 W. North st., and they were just old fashioned enough to move in by Christmas. The house originated on an architect's drawing board at the University of California where Bud majored in ceramics. The Nurserymen say by Orange County Nurserymen's Association Coniferous evergreens as a group are neglected in this area. They should be used more in our landscaping to add a note of peace and stability lacking in some of the broad-leaved plants. Probably the most popular conifers are the Juniper. These are available in low spreading forms that hug the ground, taller forms that reach a height of two feet with a spread of four or five feet, or to five feet height and a spread of ten feet. There is also the famous juniper torulosa, are Hollywood juniper, with its deep green foliage and interesting form. Among the Arbor Vitace varieties are available ranging from the dwarf formal ones with gold tips on the twigs to the tall pyramid of the American Arbor Vitae. The Golden Column Arbor Vitae is a beautiful variety of medium height. Although our native Monterey cypress has become afflicted with pests, we can turn to another native from our own Santa Ana mountains, the Forbes cypress, which so far is free of the troubles besetting the Monterey. An improved variety known as the Tecate cypress is available. The Lawson cypress of our Pacific northwest does well here and is usually planted in the lovely blue form. A number of other forms are available, some green with a gold tint. Among trees there are available besides the popular Deodar cedar, two other fine cedars, the Atlantic and the Lebanon, the latter hauling from ancient Bible lands. Besides the above there are also some excellent pines, Podocarpus, the coast and mountain redwoods, Incense cedar, and others that do well here. Funeral Held for Mrs. Laybourne Mrs. Della M. Laybourne, 80, of 128 E. Water st., died Wednesday, Jan. 7. She was a native of Indiana. Survivors are her husband, Harry T. of Palisado, Colo., a brother, W. F. He has kept in touch with architectural trends there with the idea of building a house ideally suited to himself and his family. The family includes Bud's wife, Louise, and two active pre-schoolers named Pat and Mike. They have lived in so called "modern" houses before, but they all think that this one is "it." Knowing the latest in housing trends and being able to translate them into a home is a business with Bud. He is one of Anaheim's younger up-and-coming building contractors. Family Room All 1700 square feet of living area revolves around the family room which is the hub of the house and centrally located. It measures a spacious 13x20 feet and caters to family living with a big stone fireplace, and outside entrance through the glass window wall which over looks the garden, television outlet, built-in telephone desk, book shelves and dining table. A beautiful yet practical flooring of oak parquet is laid over the cement slab which is the house foundation. The walls painted in soft tones of beige and green blend with an Egyptian wallpaper scene whose suggestion of antiquity makes interesting contrast to otherwise modern decor. To the right of the family room is the bedroom wing made up of two bedrooms, dressing room and bath. Here again the Egyptian motif is brought into play in the free form of design in the wallpaper on wardrobe doors, and in the "Egyptian Bath," which is Dr. Bigham Still Planning Head Dr. W. L.
