Spirituality Stressed in CS Lesson-Sermon
Inspiring proofs of the healing power of spiritual thinking are included in the Sunday Lession-Sermon on "Sacrament" in all Christian Science churches.
This verse from 1 Corinthians (10:16) is the Golden Text: "The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?"
Luke's Gospel (22:50-51) relates that when Jesus was betrayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, one of his followers "smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far And he touched his ear, and healed him."
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes, "We cannot choose for ourselves, but must work out our salvation in the way Jesus taught." "First in the list of Christian duties, he taught his followers the healing power of Truth and Love." "His spirituality separated him from sensuousness, and caused the selfish materialist to hate him; but it was this spirituality which enabled Jesus to heal the sick, cast out evil, and raise the dead." (pp. 30,31,51).
Dr. Claude Steen To Speak at White Temple
Dr. Claude Steen of Fullerton, son and successor of one of Orange county's best known physicians, will be the evening speaker at White Temple Methodist church in Anaheim at seven o'clock on Sunday night, showing his colored slides of his medical missionary work in Ethiopia in Africa Dr Steen is home on a year's furlough from his duties as superintendent of a Seventh Day Adventist mission hospital in this land of tropical diseases, and expects to return next summer.
White Temple is currently engaged in a church-wide study of Africa and its problems, which is the inter-denominational missionary study theme for this year. All ages of the church are engaged in this study the boys and girls
Your Other Vocation is Sermon Topic
Today, nearly every one has some kind of special training in the work that gives to them their living, but do we realize that each one of us could have another vocation. Hear Pastor Bert Jacke stelt, of Bethel Baptist church on large upon this theme when he speaks Sunday morning on, "You Other Vocation."
Sunday evening Pastor Jacke stelt will bring a short message to the 7:30 to 8:30 service on, "The Will of God."
With the first Sunday of the New Year Bethel Baptist church brought to a close her Sunday School Advancement Crusade. The average attendance ran over the 300 mark, with a 20 per cent increase over the attendance of a year ago.
The honors for the greatest growth in any department goes to the nursery department under the leadership of Mrs. Dayt Smith, for they went beyond the goal. The Junior High department under the work of Virgil Isabell also reached their goal.
The following teachers lead their classes to victory in the contest just closing, according to Pa Jungkett. Sunday school superintendent primaries: Mrs. Ralph Klemm; Juniors: Mrs. Bette Mabs, and Doe Ausburn; Juniors high: Mrs. Harry Fries, and Robert Martin, and in the adult department. The Ambassador class with Herb Stabbert as teacher and the Bible class with John Ballman as the teacher.
