The midget cattle were among six which turned up in western Nebraska herds brought to Lincoln for slaughter. Cattle men say such dwarfism occurs every once in a while in large herds. CHP Report Reveals 10 Persons Per Day Died in August Traffic SACRAMENTO — Provisional figures released today by the California highway patrol show that slightly more than 10 persons a day died in the traffic accident "epidemic" throughout the state last month. The toll was 320 with the overwheming majority, 258, killed in accidents occurring in rural areas. Sixty one of the victims were pedestrians. At the end of August this year's statewide traffic score stood at 2.187 killed about 2 per cent more than during the first eight months of 1951. In a survey of rural accidents, the patrol said almost 5000 persons were injured in August. More than 31,000 have been injured since the first of the year, almost a 10 per cent rise over 1951. A series of multiple death accidents boosted the August rural death figures, patrol's officials. Conference Chairman Earl Lee Kelly today said more than 700 delegates, leaders in transportation, law enforcement, education and allied fields and representing every section of the state, will attend. Conference sessions will be held simultaneously in seven different divisions—education, engineering, enforcement, public information and public support, motor vehicle administration, legislation and commercial vehicles. In addition, said Kelly, there will be a teen-age session where students will study the problem from their own angle and come up with their own recommendations. "Besides evolving plans which public officials, educators and civic and business leaders can carry out," Kelly said, "we hope to produce a program in which everyone can share." "The tragic harvest of traffic accidents, which last year took the lives of 3400 Californiaans and injured 100,000 more, makes it imperative that each of us take a personal part in the efforts to reduce the toll."
