Beautiful Lilliputian Has 'Em Gasping at Charlie Foy's
HOLLYWOOD — Olive Brasno, Lilliputian singer, dancer and comedienne, and probably one of the best proportioned off the "little people" is really making a big hit with night clubbers at Charlie Foy's in the valley. The "half-pint-sized Dagmar" was discovered little over 24 years ago by Buster Shaver, who at the time, had an act called Tiny Town Revue, and has been with him ever since. For many years the act was known as Buster Shaver with Olive and George, then changed to Buster Shaver with Olive, George and Richard. (George and Richard are Olive's Lilliputian brothers). The brothers have dropped show business and are in business for themselves in New Jersey, operating a liquor store, where they enjoy good business and lots of fun with their customers as they climb up and down ladders to reach their stock.
Olive is probably the most noted of Lilliputian artists in the world today, with a long string of theater, night club and hotel appearances along with many movies and television shows. In 1948, Buster and Olive appeared with Danny Kaye in the Royal Command performance at the Palladium in London, and several weeks later were commanded to appear before the royal family at Wind-sor castle.
Olive was born in South River, N. J., of normal parents. She has four normal sized sisters, one normal sized brother, and two Lilliputian brothers. She is as cute as a doll, and practically is a doll, for she is only 44 inches tall, weighing 55 pounds.
Her beauty has been compared to many of the leading normal stars of stage and screen. She has been one of the famous women photographed by Anthony Bea-camps, husband of Sarah Churchill, for his own personal galleries of beautiful women in England.
when she looked at her escort Jimmie McHugh? "Tis a cute romance!
ONCE UPON A TIME . . . Red Skelton started his theatrical career as a singing midget. He was 19 years old at the time . . . Garry Moore once wanted to be a novelist and got words of encouragement from F. Scott Fitzgerald before switching to his first radio job as a scriptwriter . . . J. Carrol Naish, star of "Life with Luigi," is the owner of a 200-year-old castle in Ireland.
KC District Meeting Hears Convention News
Anaheim Knights of Columbus, No. 1154, were hosts to a District Council meeting, consisting of Buena Park and Santa Ana, with a fried chicken dinner last night at the St. Boniface Parish hall. Sixty attended the meeting.
Deputy Grand Knight Bill Jolissaint, was chairman of the evening.
Grand Knight Don May, Anaheim Council made the welcome speech.
District Deputy Barney Jordan, reported on the national convention held recently in Los Angeles, and Proposition No. 3, for which the State Council is out in full to get a yes vote.
Father Kass, chaplain of the Buena Park Council, give a short talk on the organization of the Knights of Columbus.
Dr. Joe Ersek, lecturer of the Anaheim council, a recent resident from Hungary, spoke on "Faith Behind the Iron Curtain."
Dr. Joe Ersek, lecturer of the Anaheim council, a recent resident from Hungary, spoke on "Faith Behind the Iron Curtain," in his brief but impressive talk, Dr. Ersek said, "When we are strong enough we will be able to confine communism within the borders of Russia and there we will be able to make a healthy and mutual agreement with the sons and daughters of the Russian nation which still kept her faith in the bottom of their hearts."
Grand Knight Don May, then entertained the group by sketch drawings.
The dinner was prepared by Jim Slobodian with the able help of Paul Koennings, Carl Karcher.
The clean up crew took over and did a good job, consisting of John Shea, John Rigg, Bob Ryan, Jim Kerwin, Vinc Honc.
The meeting closed with auctioning of the remainder of the chicken which was left over from the dinner.
Thanks to Science Americans Can Go
RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) — Rep. Ralph Harvey (R-Ind.) says he believes most American ground troops can be withdrawn from Korea within a year.
On a radio panel program last night, Harvey said South Korean troops, with American air and naval support, could carry on the fighting if Lt. Gen. James Van Fleet's training of Koreans goes on as planned.
Harvey recently returned from a tour of Korea.
