Homecoming for Miss Jill Warnes
Miss Jill Warnes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Warnes, 1109 E. Center st., has returned from Honolulu where she spent the summer as a houseguest of Mr. and Mrs. I. G. Beall of Newport Beach.
Her parents honored her homecoming with a delightful swimming party and barbecue in their home. Highlighting the evening were the Hawaiian dances presented by the honoree and her cousin, Miss Tariel Beall.
A special guest was Miss Lauretta Phillips of Los Angeles, who spent the weekend in the Warnes' home. Others present were the Misses Patricia Landon, Mary Mateja, Donna May, Paula Lande, Shirley Schmitz, Theresa Metzger, Carol Ann Booth, Marguerite Hernandez and Maria Buvinch.
Fashion Platform Theme of Home Society Benefit

Worn by professional models from Hollywood and Long Beach "Your fashion platform for fall 1952" means a showing of the latest in new designer clothes. Tustin Summer Stock in Final Week With Comedy Hit 'Light Up The Sky'
Winding up its first summer season, Tustin Playbox continues its final production this week with "Light Up the Sky" being presented nightly Tuesday through Saturday.
The Playbox was established in Orange county by Producer May Rose Borum to provide an opportunity for young west coast actors to obtain professional experience through a stock company while bringing modern theatrical performances to inland Orange county.
"Summer stock companies are numerous on the east coast," Miss Borum said, "but California needs more professional stock companies to provide the opportunities that young actors must have to become fully equipped for the many phases of modern dramatic careers."
Miss Borum, assisted by Ray Aghayan as director and designer for the Playbox production, has presented a small company of young Hollywood players in four varied plays during the eight-week season. And she has made it possible for three young Orange county actors to have professional experience in the company.
Bobs Watson, who has been a part of theater and movieland since infancy, has headed the group as featured player, proving his versatility in a wide range of characterizations unusual in a player of his youth.
Pamela Payton, the 16-year-old star of the current production, also is a veteran actress, having made her debut at the age of 4. Like all principals in a stock company, Miss Payton has had varied casting through the season, demonstrating her ability with difficult dialects.
Sharing the feminine starring honors has been Cathy Browne, who pursues a varied career of films, plays and modeling.

The college crowd will be wearing those perennial favorites, sweaters and skirts, on campus this fall—semester honors going to charcoal, the season's newest color. Skirts will be straight lined or pleated according to individual preference. Orion is the favored fabric because, although it can be made to resemble wool, it does not wrinkle, is hand washable, dries quickly and needs no pressing.
Jersey coordinates and corduroy combinations of skirt, weakit and harmonizing blouse make lovely ensembles which, if carefully chosen, can be mixed or matched for endless combinations.
These are a few of the fashion notes we picked up from Charisle Evans, L.A. fashion coordinator, who presided at S. Q. R.'s back to school fashion show. The fashion show is part of the comprehensive back to school wardrobe help that S.Q.R. is prepared to give college girls under the direction of store executive Martha Schumacher.
Fashion Panel
A fashion panel composed of Carol Hochholi who attends Whitter, Mildred Harling of Redlands, La Verne Stanley of Anaheim high, and Joanne Spencer of Fullerton junior college is on hand to model fall fashions for this younger set and to advise prospective students on college needs, accessories and color harmonies.
Miss Carpenter, S.Q.R.’s talented buyer, is responsible for the very complete selection of formal, sportswear, sleepwear, and lounging apparel. The girl who is selecting her college wardrobe for the first time will be assured of hard to go by the labeled size of a child’s dress or coat since they vary quite widely according to the manufacturer. Deep hems, adjustable sleeves, movable buttons are decided assets.
A check on the workmanship used in ready-made garments will save you money.
Garments cut with the grain of the cloth withstand strain better than do garments cut on the bias. Seams should be deep enough not to pull out, be double stitched if possible, and not draw or pucker any place.
Buckles with good fasteners, well matching hooks and eyes, well made buttonholes, zippers without bulges all indicate quality. Coat linings should be fitted so as not to constrict arm movements, and be of a suitable material. Skimpy pleats will not stay in place long. Frills of any sort increase ironing time. The more simple the decoration the better the wearing quality as a general rule.
Physical freedom is very necessary to the active child. This aspect of fit should be taken into consideration when buying clothes. Avoid poor imitations of more luxurious materials. If you have a basic keynote of color in mind, you will be able to choose an article that will go with several outfits.
