HOMES - C Attend Church Christian Science Man as the image or reflection of God has a perfect, everlasting existence, the Sunday Bible Lesson on "Man" in all Christian Science churches points out. The Golden Text is from Daniel (10:19): "O man greatly beloved, fear not; peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong." This verse from I John will be read, "For this is the message that ye have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another" (3:11). Citations from the Christian Science Textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy include: "It should be thoroughly understood that all men have one Mind, one God and Father, one Life, Truth, and Love. Mankind will become perfect in proportion as this fact becomes apparent, war will cease and the true brotherhood of man will be established" (p. 457). Using as his topic "What Is God?" Kendall Stuart, a former Reader in a Christian Science White Temple Methodist A series of Sunday evening programs on the theme of "Religion and Healing" will begin at White Temple Methodist church at the 7 o'clock service Sunday night when Rev. Owen M. Geer, pastor of the Fullerton Methodist church, gives a review of Dr. Rebecca Beard's nationwide seminars on this theme. Dr. Beard recently conducted one of her seminars at Fullerton. She is an M.D. with 20 years of successful practice and a brilliant scientific background who became interested in the relationship of Faith to healing, and is now touring America explaining it in scientific terms that the layman can understand. Her book, "Everyman's Search" is attracting widespread attention. Dr. Geer has himself made extensive study in this field, and will introduce the series by outlining his own experiences with Dr. Beard and tracing the growth of this movement among the established and so-called "orthodox" churches. St. Michael's Episcopal The high school age young people of St. Michael's Episcopal church are sponsoring a cookery food sale on Sunday, March 9 from the 8 a.m. service through the 11 a.m. service. Cookies, pie cakes, and candy will be sold in front of the church which is located at 229 E. Adele. An evening service is held at 7 p.m. each Sunday and is participated in, and also sponsored by the young people, the New John Kimball Saville officiating. In the near future an evening of entertainment will be enjoyed by all those attending, when the young people present two old fashioned melodramas, "Hillbilly Sue" and "He Ain't Done Right by Nell." Tickets for this performance will be on sale in a few weeks. MORE ABOUT... At present, the high school enrollment is some 1270. In a nutshell, the Elementary School Board position is: the board is not opposed to the expanded junior high program, but questioned whether expansion should take place now in the form of heavy bonded indebtedness for new facilities, or if the old facilities should be used to the maximum. Mr. Stabbert and the board also suggested that the elementary school districts in the west end of the county give thought to unionization to build the new junior high school themselves. Philip Taylor has been concert master of the orchestra. BUILDING FAX By CARL MEYER See., Orange Co. Bldrs. Assu. Having discussed recent trends indicating that even a home may be a place of peace and quiet (regardless of radio, television, children, phonographs) let's pursue the subject more precisely. The living room, for example, is often used for several purposes all at the same time, and with conflicting results. The radio is on (the kids are listening to one of their favorite programs), father is concentrating on the evening newspaper, and mother is trying to talk over the telephone. So what happens? Either mother's phone conversation must be cut short, or father doesn't enjoy the paper, or the kids have to shut off the radio or television. Is all this necessary? Absolutely not. A living room in today's modern home can be so planned by you, with the aid of your architect, builder, and an acoustical engineer, that you can literally have a "three ring" circus midst peace and quiet. How? There are several solutions. Here is one suggested plan: have an L-shaped living room. No back-breaking spading, working, sowing... no harvest of weeds and bare spots... fine-bladed, rapid growth U-3 Bermuda grass sod plugs set in existing lawn bare spots or newly prepared lawns spread quickly to form a tough, dense, green lawn—choking out crabgrass and summer weeds as it spreads. This is no dream of things to come... U-3 grass-plugs are here, now, after years of rigorous experiment and testing by the Unitarian States Golf Association, Green Section working with the Bureau of plant Industry, U. S. Department of Agriculture at Beltsville, Maryland, and a large number of experiment stations throughout the country. U-3, a Bermuda grass, grows no seed... is planted from sod as small "plugs". It thrives during hot, dry weather with little or no watering, is highly disease resistant, is a special strain developed specifically for hot, sunny areas where ordinary grasses 'burn out'. You'll know it right away 'cause it explodes with a flash brighter than the sun; brighter than anything you've ever seen before. Then comes a very big wind that could knock you down. Likewise, plan to have an occasional and even functional, mansion or wooden protrusions into the room. These can have a decorative effect as well as a sound-educating effect. You can have a quiet living room by advance planning. AUHS PLAYERS Cast in 'Good News' Production Flowering trees form striking features of many gardens. On many small properties space is at a premium but a flowering tree or two can add much to a garden. Like many other deciduous plants, the flowering trees are often afflicted with delayed foliation. This difficulty is characterized by slow and incomplete leafing out in spring and poor blossom displays. Cherries and apples are usually most affected, peaches less so. Many times whole branches will never start growth and eventually there is considerable dieback. There is no cure for delayed foliation except by breeding of varieties more tolerant of our climate. Flowering trees prefer deep, well drained loamy soil, well fertilized but species vary in their tolerance of unfavorable conditions. It is well to inquire into the needs of each kind considered before purchasing. If bare root trees available now are to be planted a hole should be dug large. It base root trees available now are to be planted a hole should be dug large enough to accommodate the roots without bending them around. While the tree is held upright, soil is poured around the roots and carefully packed in with the fingers—not intruded with a club which is likely to ruin the roots. After hitting the hole the tree is watered to settle the soil and no more should be needed until after growth begins. Among the fine flowering trees available to grace our gardens at this time of year besides the well known peach are the Bechtel's Crab, with masses of lovely shell pink bloom in March or April, the Red Leafed Plum with pink flowers in spring and deep red or bronze foliage giving color most of the year, the fluffy pink Flowering Cherries, and Red Bud.
