For Results and Quick Anaheim Gazetteer by JOHN S. NEUBAUER The memory of the just is blessed; but the name of the wicked shall rot.—Prov. 10:7. A YEAR AGO—Huge airlift operations aided United Nations forces in smashing red lines on the Korean Central front. Gen. Bradley reported that 250,000 Yanks were in the Korean theatre and that a rotation system would be set up and in operation soon. Ross R. Rottenhouse, 56, state head of the Odd Fellows Lodge, was killed when attempting to cross 101 highway in San Clemente. The Santa Cruz man was the 12th 1951 traffic fatality. Richard Palomares lost the fenderskirts from his parked car in Santana. John O'Kane is to head the annual Ike Huck Finn day celebration, D. Perry Maynard announced... It rained! It halled and the wind blew in Anaheim a year ago today, but only 47 of an inch was added to the low seasonal rainfall total... M/Sgt. James Burgen was to attend the Naval School of Justice at Newport, R.I.... Death called John Boden, 70, former manager of the Dazed Woman's Story Baffles Santa Ana Police Half conscious mutterings of a young woman, Juanita Harp, gf, who staggered into Santa Ana police headquarters at 2:30 a.m. today and collapsed in front of the desk sergeant's window, led police to suspect that she had been criminally attacked. The woman was taken to the county hospital for treatment and examination. There were no visible marks of violence upon her, it was said, but when she was being revived by use of ammonia at the police station, she cried out: "No, no! Please don't do it! You can't make me do it! I'll tell you, no, no! No knife! I'm scared of knives!" At the hospital she gave evidence of advanced shock and was unable to stand alone, but violently resisted efforts to aid her. It was finally necessary to restrain her with straps, police said. At her home, 324 Winter Pl., Mrs. Raymond Bryant, who lived with Miss Harp, told police she had not seen the young woman since Sunday, when she went to her place of employment. Hungarian Red in Los Angeles Probe LOS ANGELES (AP)—A former veteran communist took the stand High Living Costs Begin to Level off WASHINGTON (AP) — Liv costs now at an all-time high seem to be levelling off somewhat—but no one can tell if inflation is really stopped. The government's living-costDEX for mid-January was due day and was expected to show little if any change from a more earlier. This expected pause in steadily increasing living trend since the Korean war may be only temporary, or refocus post-holiday price declines. Supervision of Soviet Demanded By Korean Reds MUNSAN, Korea (AP)—Communists today "categorically rejoiced" an Allied proposal that would ban Russian supervision of a rean truce. The Allies had proposed neutral nations police the truce instead of six. This would Norway off the United Nations list and Russia off the red nominations. "We cannot consider it," a Chinese Col. Pu Sham. Staff officers also remain deadlocked on the number of ports of entry each side should be allowed during a truce. Allies now propose six, the co- Hungarian Red in Los Angeles Probe LOS ANGELES (P)—A former veteran communist took the stand today to broaden the scope of the government's case against the 18 California communists charged with conspiracy. John Lautner, 50, a former party organizer in New York, Ohio, Michigan and West Virginia, began tracing his 21-year career in the party. Under the questioning of Asst. U. S. Atty. General Lawrence K. Bailey, of Washington, D.C., the prosecution tried to broaden the case to include national functioning of the party. Lautner, a native of Hungary, said he became a naturalized American in 1926 at Youngstown, O., and joined the communist party's Yorkville unit at New York City in 1929. Veterans Must File For Tax Benefits Filing of tax exemption claims by war veterans will start next Monday, March 3, and continue through the last Monday in May, County Assessor Hugh J. Plumb announced this week. Claims are filed at his office. Veterans who do not own property assessed at more than $5000 are eligible for exemption up to $1000 of assessed valuation, providing they are legal residents of California. The unmarried widow of a veteran is equally eligible for the $1000 exemption, as are widowed mothers of deceased veterans, and pensioned widows or parents of veterans. The widowed mother of a deceased veteran is not eligible if there is a resident widow. Veterans who may not own property assessed at more than $5000 still are not eligible to claim. NAME—What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.—Shakespeare. OSCARS — Hollywood may go wild with its annual Oscar presentation. An Oscar might be a novelty in glamorville, but here in Anaheim, Oscar is quite a common name. There are so many of them maybe they ought to get together and form a club... Anaheim could start an Oscar club, because of the number of "wheels" and "gears" named Oscar... There's Oscar Hanson, the banker... Oscar Schultz, the tool and die manufacturer... And Oscar Scholz, the painting contractor... And Oscar Solter, the chain store manager... And Oscar Renner, the department store owner... Oscar Gibbs, the lumberman... Oscar Heying, the councilman and druggist... Oscar Leeb, the drycleaner... Oscar Newkirk, one of the Newkirks associated in the Newkirk Manufacturing Co. WORKERS—The Oscar club would take in all phases of community life. Anaheim's Oscars are prominent in all fields of endeavor. They're a real cross section of the community. HONORS — These Oscars deserve Oscars... Oscar Van Tine, supervisor of a large dairy... Oscar Johnson, the shopkeeper... Oscar Larsen, an electronics expert... Oscar Maasa, the build- At her home, Mrs. Winterla pl., Mrs. Raymond Bryant, who lived with Miss Harp, told police she had not seen the young woman since Sunday, when she went to her place of employment. Mrs. Carolina Heyin Mrs. Carolina M. Heyin, for years a resident of Orange county and for 46 years residing in Alamitos, died unexpectedly yesterday at the age of 69 in home, 10942 Pine st., Los Alamitos. She was a member of the Alamitos Fire department auxiliary. Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Averda Miller of Palm Dert, Calif., and Mrs. Leona Wraven of Tulsa, Okla.; two sons: Irvin E. of Anaheim and Eugene M. Heying of Los Alamitos; their sisters: Mrs. Minnie Lindhurst and San Jacinto; Mrs. Frances Falla Hawthorne; and Mrs. Anna Eringhoff of Rhineland, Mo.; brother, Martin Bremer of Slat Mo.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel on Backs, Campbell and Kaulba mortuary with the Rev. Howard S. Congdon of Anaheim First Presbyterian church officiating. Etonment will follow in Long Vista mausoleum. Canada is an independent and sovereign member of the British Commonwealth of Nations. Like the U.S., it is a federation with provincial governments similar to the United States. HONORS — These Oscars deserve Oscars ... Oscar Van Tine, supervisor of a large dairy ... Oscar Johnson, the shopkeeper ... Oscar Larsen, an electronics expert ... Oscar Maass, the builder ... Oscar Lompe the elder, and Oscar Lompe, the younger, the aircrafter ... Oscar Hughes who is synonymous with good eating ... Oscar Harris, a Hotpoint expert ... Oscar Culpepper, one of Anaheim's leading furnituremen ... Oscar Hendershot, whose middle name is service ... Oscar Quinn, the steam engineer ... Oscar Carlson the agriculturist ... And Oscar E. Culpepper who is currently with Uncle Sam on a tour of duty ... These men are outstanding Anaheimers who have a lot in common. They share the same first name—Oscar. FACTUALLY — Anaheim has more Oscars than any other city in the county. No kiddin'! WHO'S WHO—Anaheim's list of distinguished citizens named Oscar, reads like a who's who ... Oscar Anson ... Oscar Christensen ... Oscar Miller ... Oscar Myer, the frozen foods expert ... Oscar Brower, the man with the musical ear, who keeps most of the county's pianos in tune ... Oscar Ezell who is with the Kwikset team ... Oscar Perez and Oscar Zabl, the rancher ... And all the other Oscars who make Anaheim the wonderful place it is. Yes, sir! The Gazetteer salutes Oscar—Anaheim's legion of Os-sometimes they forgive them." The unmarried widow of a veteran is equally eligible for the $1000 exemption, as are widowed mothers of deceased veterans, and pensioned widows or parents of veterans. The widowed mother of a deceased veteran is not eligible if there is a resident widow. Veterans who may not own property assessed at more than $5000 still are not eligible to claim exemption if their wives own property assessed at more than that figure. Plumb explained. The assessor called attention to a new provision In the law which permits veterans to file evidence of ownership by contract or purchase as well as by deed. But the law, he reminded veterans, requires that such deeds or contracts must be recorded by the first Monday in March, before the property can be considered for tax exemption. GWTW STILL POPULAR TEL AVIV (AP)—"Gone With The Wind" is still blowing strong in Israel. In one of the biggest Tel Aviv theaters, the good old Clark Gable-Vivian Leigh epic is daily drawing record crowds since it began its second run two months ago. Another Jerusalem hit is Cecil de Mille's "Samson and Delilah." But when the Jewish youngsters there spotted several deviations from the Bible tale, they critically shouted, "That ain't so." CARS. NITECAPSULE — An Oscar (Wilde) once wrote; "Children begin by loving their parents; as they grow older they judge them; Stole has fringed sockets."
