For Results and Quick Anaheim Gagetteer by JOHN S. NEUBAUER ... My days are swifter than a weaver's skiffle.—Job 7:6. YESTERYEAR — Just a year ago newspaper headlines proclaimed that the Yanks stopped a giant red offensive in Korea and that railworkers admitted guilt in strike and were fined $75,000. Albert R. Morrison was the ninth traffic victim of the year. Witnesses substantiated Lee Christensen's story that the 88-year-old Costa Mesan either ran or jumped in front of his car. Orange county motor vehicle registrations totaled 113,989—there were 93,-106 automobiles, 1527 motorcycles and 9950 trucks. Lloyd Scott had his troubles last year. Major Howard Lukens received the DFC cluster for his outstanding work in the Korean war. Five Anahi students — Philip Taylor, Gene Abraminson, Jim Durflinger, Marilyn Harris and Arnetta Sparkman—were selected to play with the California Hi-School symphony orchestra. Hex Bruns of the Fire Department was assigned to Building Inspector Homer Wallace's office by City Administrator Keith Murdoch. Taxpayers' Assn. Points Out Huge Possible Saving Tax savings of $10,087,000 would be possible for the people of Orange county if Congress accepted the recommendations of Senator Harry F. Byrd, of Virginia, for reductions of $8.6 billion in the $85.4 billion federal budget proposal now before it. California Taxpayer's association estimated today. Californians bear more than 8 per cent of the total federal tax burden and will eventually realize more than 8 per cent of any budget reductions made. "Statewide, Californians would have eventual tax savings of $733,-$80,000 if Senator Byrd's recommendations for budget cuts are adopted by Congress," the Taxpayers' organization said. "Even greater savings could be achieved if Congress were to adopt the resolution setting a $71 billion limit on the federal spending budget for 1952-53," the association said, pointing out that $71 billion is the amount expected to be collected under the present heavy level of federal taxes. Senator Byrd holds that Congress can make the $8.6 billion spending cut without active support from the chief executive. "Every dollar that is not spent on the federal level is a dollar that will eventually be spendable or savable by the individual citizen." DFC cluster for his outstanding work in the Korean war... Five Anahi students — Philip Taylor, Gene Abramson, Jim Durflinger, Marilyn Harris and Arnetta Sparkman—were selected to play with the California Hi-School symphony orchestra... Nex Bruns of the Fire Department was assigned to Building Inspector Homer Wallace's office by City Administrator Keith Murdoch. Jim McMahon was sent to the Fire Brigade. Louis Stephens, Kenny Van Dyke and Robert Van Dyke, won prizes at the Riverside County Fair. Lee Hanson and Avoc Carlson accompanied the Anahi Future Farmers to Indio... Sportswise a year ago, Marlon Hill was elected president of the new Girls' Softball league which comprised teams from Phoenix, Fresno, Monrovia, Orange and Buena Park. C. G. Candles of Fresno was vice president and Tommye Slappey, secretary-treasurer. IRONY—Jesus Avitia wanted to build himself a barbecue pit in his back yard in Fullerton. The Planning Commission said "No can do!" ... "Okay," the Pacific Lighting repair man replied, "We'll see about that." He took it up with his realestater. "I want a place where I can have a barbecue, he specified. 'You sell my place and I'll buy the place you find for me.'" ... "It's a deal!" the realestater replied. It didn't take long for him to sell the Avitia hacienda, but it was more difficult to find a place that met with the specifications. ... The buyer of the Avitia home wanted to move in. Avitia had to move out. He had to buy a place pronto-like; so he bought a place in Anaheim. REPEAT ITEM—A human being is the world's cheapest commodity. It seems that life is expendable. That is, if it isn't your life. Otherwise the powers that be would have seen to it that signals were placed at the "coroner's corner"—Lemon and Oranges. The above drawing shows the various formations Steele Petroleum Co., geologists expect to encounter in searching for oil from Anaheim's north-end industrial area. Their geological estimates place any likely pool of production—quantity oil at below 6000 feet. The arrows at the left, however, indicate an area where oil may be found. The well is straight down 1580 feet then is whipstocked toward the city. Anaheim Industrial No. 1 has now reached below the 5700 foot mark. Although the drillers have been battling a tough shale for a couple of weeks, the engineers on the project are satisfied with the progress on the well and things are coming along pretty much as they had predicted. However, Steele company officials are the first to point out hat it isn't what you find along the way—it's what is the amount expected to be collected under the present heavy level of federal taxes. Senator Byrd holds that Congress can make the $8.6 billion spending cut without active support from the chief executive. "Every dollar that is not spent on the federal level is a dollar that will eventually be spendable or savable by the individual citizen," the Taxpayers' association declared. RENOVO, Pa. UP—A Texas firefighting expert made ready again today to put out a 150-foot flame which broke out for the third time in a newly-brought in gas well near here. The earth is a mean distance of 93,004,000 miles away from the sun. The central undisturbed portion of the Dismal Swamp in North Carolina and Virginia is about half the size of the state of Delaware. LINES-O-TYPE—George Mene who was one of the Daystrom production controllers is now with Northrop. So is Edward Haulon, a devout, sagacious gentleman, who lives by the Golden Rule. Anaheim's canine population will be assured first class care, now that C. Ross Dean, DVM, has opened a small animal hospital. Speaking of hoes doctors, reminds one that Robert Griffin is now practicing up north where he acquired a cattle rancho. Cleatus Bonds, the personable chap who meets a lot of Anaheimers during the course of his day's work, is sometimes stumped by colloquialisms of various parts of the country. Ralph Rivera has mighty few complaints about his work. He believes in having satisfied customers. H. P. (Horsepower) Holmes, former Anaheim manual training instructor, is making a remarkable comeback. He had a stroke, but will-power and determination have made it possible for the mighty nice guy to enjoy life all the more. Raymond Huizing has a highly technical job in one of Anaheim's citrus biproducts concerns. He's a batch mixer... Fred (Dobbin) Vall is doing right well in his new business in Whittier. He is an outstanding designer of mod-now reached below the 5700 foot mark. Once the Pacific was our first line of defense. Today that first line of defense is the local organization of every man, woman and child in an effective Civil Defense. New York has been the most populous state in the Union since 1820. ern homes built for comfortable living. ERA—Gordon Whitfall's announcement that he would play a role in the subdividing of the Chapman Orchard Company's home place, marks the end of an era in the development of Orange county. The late Charles C. Chapman was one of the pioneer developers of the Valencia orange industry, both through his orchards and marketing arrangements. It is no secret that the orange landa have not been as productive as they once were. Housing is a more valuable commodity today. With the uprooting of the trees, another colorful era in the saga of the development of the Southland begins; and one ends. NITECAPSULE—Nowadays, a dollar saved is 50c lost.
