Pravda Charges U.S. Aiding Austria MOSCOW UP—Pravda charged today that the United States is pushing for a separate peace treaty with Austria and plans to raise an Austrian army to serve under Gen. Dwight Eisenhower's Atlantic Treaty command. Such U.S.-Austrian action, said the communist party organ, would split Austria into two parts. The paper added the Austrian government "long since has been following a policy of division of the country into two parts economically." (Russia and the western Big Three have been negotiating for five years without reaching successful conclusion of a peace treaty for Austria. The country now is divided into French, British, American and Soviet occupation zones. (In the treaty talks, the West objects to Russian demands for reparations. Russia recently added demands that Trieste and Austrian demilitarization be discussed during the talks. The West refused this demand.) Pravda said the West is "counting on forcing upon Austria a unilateral treaty of the Japanese or Western German type and the Western Powers intend to form a Western Austrian army and place it alongside the corps led by Hitlerite generals being formed for Eisenhower's army." Italy Reportedly Signed Contract With Iranian Co. ROME UP—The newspaper Il Tempo reported today that the Italian Middle East Petroleum Solution Posed For Marginal Citrus Groves Low yields per acre and the returns per box received by vicla growers in recent years placed many orchards in the original class. A survey of production records from 1000 orchards ducted by the Agricultural tension service in Orange co., revealed that over half of the chards averaged 300 field boxes less per acre annually. These facts and others that influenced returns in the value industry were presented by B. Advisor Harold E. Wah'bern, the 24th annual Orange Co. Citrus Institute last Friday. Servations and studies in the have shown that low produce can be traced to five major factors, any one or more of which affect yield. They include shade soils, poor root or tree stock, burn, frost damage, and improper soil management. Ten years ago an orchard producing 350 field boxes per acre normal sized oranges was covered satisfactory to maintain farm family. Today 500 boxes are necessary to bring the quired income, using ten acres a unit. It is necessary today the owner to perform most of labor requirements except vesting and spraying. Alternative crops were sugared by Wahlberg for those orchards that had no possibility of increasing their production because one or more of the five depending factors mentioned. Taking climate into consideration. Italy Reportedly Signed Contract With Iranian Co. ROME (AP)—The newspaper Il Tempo reported today that the Italian Middle East Petroleum company signed a barter contract with the Iranian National Petroleum company in Tehran Sunday for two million tons of petroleum annually for 10 years. Il Tempo, which has close connections with the Italian foreign ministry, did not disclose the source of its information. Payment for the oil, the newspaper said, would be in Italian products and services. Effective date of the contract was not given. No further details of the deal were given and government officials were not immediately available for comment. The semi-official Iranian newspaper Bakhtar Emrooz reported three weeks ago an Italian company was dickering to buy half a million tons of Iranian oil at $16.24 a ton, about two-thirds the international price. The Iranian government also announced on Jan. 29 that it had agreed to barter half a million tons of oil to Hungary for sugar, cloth, heavy industrial machinery and farm equipment.
