CALIFORNIANA — In 1836, a Mexican Federal decree was issued dividing California into three districts; one extending the length of the peninsula of Baja California; the second included the territory between Santo Domingo and El Buchon; and the third was from San Luis Obispo to the frontier at Sonoma. In turn, each of these districts was divided into partidos. The northernmost district had San Juan de Castro and the Mission San Francisco as head towns; Los Angeles and Santa Barbara were the head towns of the Middle district; Baja California was not so partitioned Dec. 1836. Doty (Joseph F. Wagner, Inc., New York, $2.50). Father Doty has written "Stories for Discussion," a series of 17 short stories, to illustrate some points of religious teaching which may serve as a "springboard" for stimulating discussions by church groups. Although planned for group discussions, and with questions at the end of each story, this interesting technique is also suitable for individual reading: A member of the faculty of the Cardinal Hayes high school of New York, Father Doty is in active touch with young people and the problems and conflicts which either confront them now or will in the future. ANAHEIMER — According to the 1950 census, the average Mr. America is a semi-skilled worker, about 30 years old, has a year or two of high school; earns in the neighborhood of $3000 a year; is married and has two kids; has a home on which he is making payments; has a car; owns a mechanical refrigerator, radio and television set; subscribes to his hometown newspaper and has a telephone; he smokes cigarettes and drinks socially. That sounds like the average Anaheimer. OBJECTIVES—Anaheim should have certain objectives to achieve in the immediate future. Such as: Maintaining and securing adequate water supplies for an ever increasing population; Developing an efficient system of rapid interurban passenger transportation; Erecting a modern, up-to-date hospital in Anaheim; Working for a more extensive freeway system; Increasing off-street parking facilities; Helping to make Orange county highways safer; Speeding up civilian defense measures; Work for smog abatement in and around Anaheim; Insist on Anaheim schools being among the best in the nation, as Anaheim youth deserves the best possible break in preparing for the future. PREDICTION — In 1951, the Daystrom Corp., Robertshaw-Pulton and the Northrop Aircraft Corp., established major industrial plants in Anaheim. Several others—U. S. Electrical Motors, in particular—projected plants for the Anaheim area. During the year Daystrom began producing wood furnaces in a smaller plant on Elm st.; however, none of these major plants will begin full production until 1952. These plants are just the beginning of Anaheim's industrial expansion. Other plants will bring payrolls to this area next year and will employ men from Anaheim and its environs.
