For Results and Quick Japanese Ship Sinks After 10 Day Fight TOKYO (CP) — The 8,669-ton Japanese freighter Kinugasa Maru, in trouble 10 days and abandoned by its crew today sank in the mid-Pacific. Maritime safety headquarters announced a report of the sinking was radioed by the patrol boat Dalo, which had been standing by the derelict 1000 miles east of Japan. Safety headquarters said it believed the 42-man crew of the Kinugasa Maru was aboard the freighter Kamikawa Maru, which was accompanying the Kinugasa on a voyage from Vancouver, B.C. The freighter, with a cargo of iron ore, sprang a leak Nov. 9. Heavy weather reopened the leak after it had been patched up and the Kamikawa Maru rushed to her aid. The Kinugasa Maru was owned by the Hashimoto Steamship Co. of Kobe. Six Wacs Cause Problem to Army Over Punishment CAMP BRECKINRIDGE, Ky. (UP) — A slightly puzzled Army pondered today the problem of where to imprison six WAC sergeants sentenced to serve time for beating a fellow WAC. The confusion stems from one major detail—the Army has no prison facilities for women offenders. Col. Barney Daughtry, Camp Breckinridge chief of staff, said he knew of no precedent in the matter of a female member of the Armed Services facing possible time behind bars. The problem will be solved in either of two reviews—the Judge Advocate General's on the base or a civilian board's in Washington. One highly placed Breckinridge officer, preferring anonymity on the subject, suggested the review courts have no choice but to file away the prison terms and give the girls some other punishment. The six sergeants were convicted of assault and battery on Pre-Carol Ann Kierce, 20-year-old Mount Vernon, Ohio, girl.
