Melcher Gets Jail Sentence Raymond H. Melcher of Anaheim received the following sentences Friday from City Judge L. P. Bonnat. He was charged with one count of petty theft for which he received 90 days in the county jail, and 45 days suspended for probation period of three years; and a parking meter violation of Oct. 6, 1951, for which he was fined $10 and five days in county jail. The sentences will run consecutively. Native of Mexico Dies at Home In Placentia Mr. Francisco de la Parra died at his home in Placentia Friday at the age of 77 years. He was born in Mexico. He is survived by one son, Andres of Mexico and three brothers and two sisters all who live in Mexico. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic church. William Kistler Dies in Compton Mr. William W. Kistler died yesterday in Compton at the age of 49 years. He lived at 2429 W. 152nd st., in Gardena. He is survived by one daughter, Miss Billie L. Strickland and one son, Frank L. Clime and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., with the Rev Howard Congdon officiating. Interment will be held in the Anaheim Cemetery. Resident From Bellflower Dies Mrs. Maybell L. Messersmith passed away at her home, 6129 Brier Crest in Bellflower Friday at the age of 66 years after having been a resident of Bellflower for four years. She is survived by three daughters, Mary M. Wright of Anaheim; Mrs. Emma Norris of Oregon and Mrs. Calla Johnson of Wyoming; three sons, Albert, Clarence and Arthur and 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She also leaves one brother, Wilber Moon and two sisters, Flora Stark and Mrs. Fannie Rolbyer. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev Howard Congdon officiating. Interment will be held in the Loma Vista Memorial Park. KERNODLE CONVALESCING KERNODLE CONVALESCING Capt. Michael Kernodle, U.S.N., retired, who was commandant of the Los Alamitos Air Base for several years before retiring last June, has returned to his home in Vista, Calif., to convalesce. About a month ago he entered the government hospital at Oceanside after a serious stroke that paralyzed the upper part of his body. His many friends in the enlisted personnel at Los Alamitos sent him a radio to help pass the time. The first glimpse Columbus had of the mainland in the western hemisphere was at Venezuela. He mistook it for an island.
