Fullerton JC Night School Begins Radioactivity Monitor Training
With the possibility of atomic attack very much in the mind, knowledge of how to detect radioactivity after such an event is important. Training monitors for such detection is the aim of new class to begin Oct. 16 at the Fullerton junior college even school.
To be taught by Henry Mansfield, mathematics and physics instructor in the junior college, the class in "radiological monitoring" will meet in building T-2 on the campus near the parking lot from 7-9 on Tuesday nights. Registrations will be taken in the adult education office on the high school campus.
Contamination Survey
"Primary purpose of the course is to train monitors who will survey contaminated areas for radioactivity in event of an atomic bombing." said Mansfield. "The repairs of the monitors would then be given to the medical, fire, and police units. These units would thus know whether or not it was safe to enter an area and how long they could remain."
The course would also be useful to personnel from fire and police departments, public utilities, and business industries, he said. These organizations may want to use the monitors to determine contamination of their plants and equipment.
Science Background
Persons taking the course, he said, should have a background in physical or life sciences. A course in high school physics or chemistry or practical experience in science would suffice.
It is expected that two units of non-transferable college credential.
ROTARIANS SEE UNION OIL MOVIE
Anaheim Rotarians at their meeting yesterday witnessed sound color movie of the UOil Co. which traced the development and achievements of the industry in California.
Rotarians teted or neared during the meeting included Dwyer, John Lynn, Jack Bass Oscar Renner, Eldon DeKenny Kendrick, Paul Den Clare Von Hoorebeke, Schultz, Bob Clark, Ralph Mel Gauer, Howard Tews, Nutt, Walt Taylor, Jim A Jimmy Morris, Leo Fris, Tex dleton and the Rev. Philip Ridge.
Tommy Thomason reported the opening of Anaheim's new building and said it will some 400 youngsters a week. Gay presided and introduced guest, Hugh Bridgford.
It's Orange Juice for Vitamins, the course should provide good resource material in chemistry, genetics, and instruction," Mansfield pointed out. "With approval of boards of education, the course also be used for professions."
