Let justice roll down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream—Amos 5:24.
CALIFORNIANA—Padres Ramon Abelia and Fortuni started an expedition from the Presidio of San Francisco, Oct. 15, 1811. It resulted in the exploration by water of the lower San Joaquin river, the first navigation of the Sacramento river, and the naming of San Pedro and San Pablo points.
DOCTOR—Who was Anaheim's pioneer doctor?
John August F. Heyermann became Anaheim's first practicing physician. He also operated a drug store in Anaheim for sometime.
HOTEL—When was Anaheim's first hotel erected?
August Langenberger built the first hotel in 1860.
EDUCATOR—Who was Anaheim's first outstanding educator?
James Miller Quinn came to California in November 1863. He was hired as principal and school teacher. In 1881 he became super-
You bet it has! Like any other Southern California community, Anaheim has had a water problem since its founding in the 1850s. In 1879, a well, 103 feet deep, was sunk. It was an artesian well, but by means of a pump the water was lifted to a 35-foot high tank to provide domestic water for the community. Now, a member of the metropolitan water district, Anaheim's domestic water problem seems to be adequately taken care of for the time being. While irrigation water was plentiful in the early days, irrigation water is now becoming an agricultural "headache."

HOTEL—When was Anaheim's first hotel erected?
August Langenberger built the first hotel in 1860.
EDUCATOR—Who was Anaheim's first outstanding educator?
James Miller Quinn came to California in November 1863. He was hired as principal and school teacher. In 1881 he became superintendent of school of Los Angeles county.
LAWYER—Who was Anaheim's first lawyer?
Moses Langley Wickes, a Mississippiian, may not have been the first lawyer to practice his profession in Anaheim, but he was one of the best legal minds of early-day Anaheim. In 1877 or 78 he moved to Los Angeles to become a real estate operator.
POLITICS—When did Anaheim have a representative in Sacramento to advocate an Anaheim County?
Anaheim had a representative at the State legislature in 1869-70 to petition for the formation of an Anaheim County. With the coming of the railroad in 1875, Anaheimers were quite satisfied with being part of Los Angeles county and records show that many of them actually opposed the formation of Orange county in 1889.
LAND BOOM—Did the early day land booms have any effect on the growth of Anaheim?
The early day land booms of the '70s and '80s had only a slight effect on the development of Anaheim. At that time, Anaheim was a well-established city and served a major role in the development of the surrounding communities.
LOCATION—What factor kept Anaheim from developing into one of the west's great cities?
Anaheim's location was one of the primary factors that kept it from developing into one of Southern California's leading cities. At one time Anaheim was the second largest city in Southern California. Cities more favorably situated to transportation developed more rapidly.

Anaheim's location was one of the primary factors that kept it from developing into one of Southern California's leading cities. At one time Anaheim was the second largest city in Southern California. Cities more favorably situated to transportation developed more rapidly.
HIGHWAYS—When were the present highways developed?
The highways through Anaheim (101, for instance) was nothing but a wagon trail until the coming of the automobile. The Better Roads movement following the turn of the century made possible highway transportation — cars, trucks, buses.
FUTURE—Has Anaheim an opportunity to develop into a major industrial center?
Factors that were once detrimental to Anaheim's industrial growth are now considered prime assets to its development. Rail and water transportation are secondary factors in the present scheme of industrial expansion.
RAILROADS—Has Anaheim sufficient public carriers to insure its industrial growth?
Anaheim is served by branch lines of three major railroads: AT&SF, SP and UP. It also has two major trucking concerns and several lesser trucking concerns to take care of the short hauls.
WATER—Does Anaheim have a water shortage?
