MOD Supports Individual Grower Vote on Government Regulation REDLANDS—Mutual Orange Distributors today reaffirmed its historic position advocating allowing individual growers to vote on whether or not citrus shipments will be regulated by government order. News of the secretary of agriculture's decision to hold a referendum in the near future allowing growers to vote on continuance of the present federal marketing order was received in a telegram from Washington while the M.O.D. board was in session. The referendum will not involve the marketing order on lemons. In addition to the actual operations, the officers will discuss the history of guerrilla warfare, organization of units that work behind the lines and the various types of missions suitable for guerrilla operations. Lieutenant G. A. Davies has recently returned from Korea where he served ten months with the 25th Infantry Division. Lieutenant W. R. Try as the "prorate" regulates the volume of oranges that can be shipped each week. Vote Choice Given Cooperative packing houses have the alternative of voting their grower members as a block or submitting their names for individual ballots. Commercial packing houses are required to submit the names and address of growers whose fruit they handle so that individual ballots may be forwarded. M.O.D. has long opposed the theory of volume regulation but favors size and grade regulation. The marketing order has been in effect since 1936. "It California and Arizona growers do not want their shipments regulated it is their privilege to so express themselves by ballot," commented F. S. Gunter, president of the M.O.D. board. American First Cavalry division troops attacked along a three-mile front in the west through dust raised by a day-long artillery duel. The cavalrymen captured hills on the flanks of their advance northwest of Yonchon in bayonet and grenade charges. But they were forced off two of them by counterattacks and concentrated mortar fire. Chinese on the main ridges in the center of the three-mile sector beat off the American assaults. The whole sector was shrouded with dust raised by the explosion of 1300 red artillery and mortar shells and thundering of 18,000 rounds from U.N. guns. South Koreans knifed ahead with two advances among the eastern ridges. B-29 Superforts backed the three-front U.N. offensive with night attacks on the red front lines. They hit 21 points with air bursting bombs. Grow and grow. There's a definite feel of Hallowe'en in the brisk October air. FIESTA QUEEN CANDIDATE Mrs. Frank S. Farm Expert Says County Farming Acreage to Drop The next decade will see lesse; acreage devoted to agricultural production and more land taken up by residential and subdivision tracts. Population pressures hastened by the development of the Santa Ana Freeway and other traffic arteries into Orange county will materially change the farm picture. This outlook was substantiated in presentation of current crop trends by Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahiberg at the Southern California Farm Bureau conference held at Garden Grove, Saturday. Significant changes have already taken place in recent years and will become more evident as population and economic pressure develop further. Comparison of crop acreages in Orange County 25 years ago and today were presented by Wahiberg. The 1952 election, he said in a major speech at a $100-a-plate Founders' day banquet of the Michigan Republican party, will be one of the most crucial "in our times." "You must decide then," he declared, "whether we continue to its logical conclusion our present policies to totalitarian government and war, or whether we turn again to American principles." On foreign policy, to which he devoted most of his speech, the Ohio Senator lashed out at "the disastrous policy of Yalta and Potsdam."
