Leah Gerber to Represent Anaheim YMCA at National Convention This Month
Miss Leah Gerber, popular young High school junior, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gerber, and president of Tri-Hi-Y club for high school girls, was today presented with a round-trip ticket to Cleveland, Ohio, by Mrs. Nan A. Moore, YMCA 'Girl's Work Secretary. The presentation marked the culmination of several months of planning on the part of the Anaheim YMCA youth, in preparation to the sending of a youth delegate to the YMCA Centennial International convention, to be held in Cleveland from June 21 to June 26. Miss Gerber was selected to represent the local YMCA because of her active participation in Tri-Hi-Y, which club she has served as president for the past year.
Over 5000 delegates, representing all sectors of the YMCA family, both youth and adults, are expected to be present, according to reports released today by "Tommy" Thomason, general secretary of the Anaheim YMCA. This will be the largest YMCA gathering ever to be held in North America. Mr. Thomason and his family will also be in attendance at the convention, representing the local adults as well as participating in the professional sessions scheduled for the same conference.
The President of the United States; the Prime Minister of Canada; Dr. Ralph Bunche, Nobel Peace winner and United Nations executive; Dr. Ralph Sockman, of National Radio Pulpit fame; Paul Hoffman, European recovery program administrator, and Dr. John Oliver Nelson of the National Council of Churches will address

Institute Night At Local Church
Two very outstanding teachers have been conducting classes at the Stanton Community church every Monday night since May 28. The fourth meeting will be June 18 at 7 p.m. I. A., "Daddy" Moon, well-known Bible teacher and experienced instructor of personal workers, will teach a class in "Personal Evangelism."
This class is designed to train Christians in the art of leading souls to Christ through the use of the scriptures.
Mr. Moon has supervised the personal workers in nearly every major evangelistic campaign of recent years in Southern California. He served in this capacity during the Billy Graham campaign in Los Angeles in 1949 and is supervisor of personal work for the "Christ for Greater Los Angeles" committee.
Miss Irene Hunter of Anaheim is presenting a course in "Teacher's Training." Miss Hunter is supervisor of children's work for the "Fuller Foundation." This class will train Sunday school teachers and prospective teachers in the use of the very best methods for their work.
The President of the United States; the Prime Minister of Canada; Dr. Ralph Bunche, Nobel Peace winner and United Nations executive; Dr. Ralph Sockman, of National Radio Pulpit fame; Paul Hoffman, European recovery program administrator, and Dr. John Oliver Nelson of the National Council of Churches will address the sessions.
Miss Gerber will travel aboard the El Capitan, Santa Fe streamliner, on which approximately 80 other youth delegates from California and Hawaii will be enroute to the convention. Her immediate companions will be Miss Jane Tornquist, of Huntington Beach, and Miss Joan Kimes, of Newport Heights. The YMCA girl's work in all three communities is under the direct supervision of Mrs. Nan A. Moore, Girl's Work secretary for YMCA.
Attendance at the convention has been made possible for Miss Gerber through the loyalty of the seven Tri-Hi-Y clubs in Anaheim, who have sponsored various events throughout the year to raise two-thirds of the cost of the convention. The remaining third of the cost has been saved by Leah herself.
The youth delegates will leave on June 18 and will return on June 29.
A marriage license has been issued to Paul Leonard Harper 22, 315 S. Olive st., Anaheim; and Jimnie Ann Leonard 17, 3500 West ave., Fullerton.

Mother, are you planning to pamper poppa this week? Father's Day, in case you have not heard, is this coming Sunday, June 17. Since the way to a man's heart is still through his stomach, let's talk about what to feed the dear.
Meat is his mainstay and that may present a problem right now if he happens to prefer beef, for price controls are on and the uncertainty over the future of the price program has made the marketing of beef at the wholesale level drop sharply.
However, Anaheim butchers at Alpha Beta markets and Safe-way store report a good supply on hand. The Safeway system,

Fall Buying in Full Swing at Garment District
NEW YORK (AP)—What women will find in their dress and suit shops next fall is being decided this week in the garment center here.
And also what junior and sis will wear when they go back to school next fall is being determined.
Record numbers of store buyers are squaring off with the makers of feminine finery for the second annual co-ordinated market week for the dress, coat and suit trade. As the fall lines are unveiled, there is much stressing of new styles and hues, some balking at the slightly higher prices, considerable coyness by buyers in delaying to place big orders, and the usual warning from manufacturers to "order now or there may be scarcities when you try to re-order later."
Many of the visitors report that their stores have given them tight buying budgets. Some have as many dollars to spend as last year — but, with prices higher, they'll buy fewer items. Some have less to spend this year, because their store managers are jittery about inventories and price wars.
But many report that retail business looks a lot more hopeful in their cities, especially those places where war plants are getting into operation.
Dress makers report ample inventories of rayon and silk fabrics for filling orders. Delivery dates are quoted as complete by October 15. On wool items September 30 delivery is promised.
The Savanna Civil Defense board will be hosts at a Strawberry Festival honoring the personnel and block wardens of their district on Friday night, June 15, at 7:30 o'clock in the Savanna school auditorium. Any resident in that territory interested in Civil Defense is invited to attend. One hundred forty-eight invitations have been mailed to those already registered.

because of the size of the enterprise and the enormous volume of business, contracts in futures and so is well fixed for weeks to come. The Alpha Beta folks, you know, operate their own feeding lots and slaughter plants here in Orange county and so are in the enviable position of keeping their own meat markets supplied.
