Hansen will cross the border into Baja California on an adventurous expedition headed by Col. John D. Craig, first and best known of the underwater experts—author of "Danger Is My Business." Other members of the party will include David Becker, a student from the East who will join the staff at La Paz and Jerry J. Joswick. Lee Hansen, president of the Orange county Cinema club, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred H. Hensen, 515 N. Los Angeles st., Anaheim. He is well known for his prize winning photographs in both color and black and white; and his rapid progress in the field of cinematography. Hansen was recently awarded the trophy for the "best color photograph of the year" by the Orange county Camera club. The group left Friday in a caravan of two station wagons and a jeep. Special underwater camera equipment and deep sea diving rigs will be used to secure many unusual illustrations of the marine life in the Gulf of California and the west coast of the peninsula. These pictures will be used in books the travelers intend to write and for articles which will appear in National Geographic and similar magazines and sportsmen's periodicals. The party began voyage with a motor tour down the length of the peninsula and into many of the little known places en route to Cape San Lucas, over a thousand miles of rugged dirt road and up to La Paz. Stops along the way will include many of the ranchos, Scamman Lagoon, Balanas Bay and Magdalena Bay to get material on turtles, giant manta rays (devil fish), killer whales, blue fin (man catching). Few inhabitants of the peninsula consist mostly of Mexicans and some Indians, but very few white people. The trip insures many thrills of adventure into this little land of mystery; but collecting true writing material is hard work and not all play. The expedition expects to be gone about four months. ENGLAND TO PRINT ENCYCLOPEDIA LONDON (UK)—The Encyclopedia Britannica, which originated in Britain, is going to be printed here again for the first time since 1911. It has been published in Chicago. The 25 volumes are expected to be printed here by next summer. John Armitage, London editor of the encyclopedia, said the printing of 10,000 sets of the new edition is the biggest printing job ever attempted in this country." Each set contains 38,000,000 words and the publication of 10,000 sets will require 420 tons of paper—nearly 100 pounds to each set. On the return cruise to La Paz the men will stop at Tiberone Island where a few of the cannibalistic Seri Indians still exist, then to Bajla de Los Angeles on the east coast of the peninsula. Lower California is little known to most of the world, though it is a land of turbulent history and was once one of the world's foremost producers of pearls. Even people of Southern California seldom visit it beyond trips to the little town of Ensenada, except by sports fishermen, and many of them see the natural beauty of the land only from the sea.
