Anaheim’s Mutual Citrus Products Company Believes in Development of Citrus Industry In the past 23 years citrus under buyer's labels. growers have come to depend upon MCP, Mutual Citrus Products, 424 S. Atchison St., as an ally in the "economic strife" between citrus growers and the buyers. The firm started manufacturing powdered pectin on the assumption that "a sound business cannot be built based on purchasing raw material at less than the growers' production cost." So efforts were made to find more profitable outlets for juice to permit payment of higher prices for fruit. During the first years, lemons were the sole fruit processed. The juice was made into citrate for making citric acid. At that time lemons were available at prices ranging from $5 to $10 per ton, which was below the cost of production. By 1930 the full production of juice was being sold to soft drink bottlers, one of the many fields developed by the company. By the end of 1931 MCP was shipping juice not only in the form of concentrate, but also packing single strength frozen orange juice and lemon juice in six gallon cans and shipping it to beverage manufacturers. In 1932 they pioneered canned citrus juices, principally lemon juice and over a period of years have developed a wide acclaim for the MCP brand—and have continued to pack a large volume which were sold principally to the bakery manufacturing trade.
