ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA
Mrs. Cook
(Continued from Page 1)
quarry was the only place to hide the body in a burry.
"Early this morning I decided to look for myself. It was only a few minutes after I started searching that I saw her body lying there. I didn't stay to look any more. I ran out on the road and flagged down the first car I saw."
In custody is a 20-year-old Negro Air Force sergeant, Lawrence J. Walker, Chief Criminal Deputy Sheriff W. W. Walrath announced last night that Walker, after hours of questioning, had acknowledged that his car sideswiped Cook's on the highway Monday afternoon.
Walker was in the party which found the body. He had been taken from jail by deputies earlier today to go over the territory where Mrs. Cook had vanished without a trace.
Walrath said Walker had insisted he kept going after the accident with Cook's car.
Walrath said Walker told him he looked out of his rear vision mirror after sideswiping the Cook car and saw the young man standing in the road, hands on hips, watching him drive away.
The deputy said Walker's car bore traces of green paint on a crumpled right fender. Cook's car was painted green. Walrath said Walker, stationed at nearby March Air Force base, earlier would admit only that he passed Cook's car.
KOREAN WAR
(Continued from Page 1) season.
The rains were a serious handicap for the United Nations forces. They slowed the air attack and bogged down the ponderous armored forces.
Northeast of Seoul, a Chinese regiment stubbornly stood off an Allied attack with a wall of mortar and small arms fire. Air observers reported red forces ranging up to battalion size all along 38 in this area. They seemed determined to hold a jagged line overlooking a valley north of Uijongbu.
An American patrol probed into Changge, seven miles south of 38. Enemy fire halted the Doughboys north of the town.
Puerto Rican troops smashed a red ammunition dump northeast of Uijongbu.
THIEF CAUGHT,
LOOT GETS AWAY
SINGAPORE (UP) — When Chinese dealer Phua Ah Soy saw another Chinese unloading three bottles of whiskey from his van into waiting pedicab, he gave chase. Phua caught the thief but when he returned the pedicab rider had disappeared along with the whisky.
The thief was sentenced to five months and ordered to pay $12 compensation. Neither the pedicab rider nor the whiskey has been found.

Walrath said Walker told him he looked out of his rear vision mirror after sideswiping the Cook car and saw the young man standing in the road, hands on hips, watching him drive away.
The deputy said Walker's car bore traces of green paint on a crumpled right fender. Cook's car was painted green. Walrath said Walker, stationed at nearby March Air Force base, earlier would admit only that he passed Cook's car parked on the roadside.
Bumper bolts found at the scene matched those on Walker's car, officers said, adding that Walker had a '45 caliber automatic on him when arrested. Walrath said Cook may have been killed with a '45 caliber bullet, but not necessarily so. The soldier is being held during questioning on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
Walrath said a ballistics check on Walker's gun is impossible because the slugs that felled Cook passed through his body. Searchers combed the ground with a mine detector this morning but couldn't find the bullets.
Skid marks indicated Cook's car was forced off the road by another. Its left front fender was smashed.
Meanwhile the Cooks! 8-month-old son, Phillip Jeffrey, was claimed from juvenile hall by the missing woman's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Trask of nearby Sunnymead.
Truck Noise
(Continued from Page 1)
boom through the city at 50 or 60 miles an hour on Lincoln ave., and E. Center st., both of them near schools, have been received by the council.
City Engineer George Holyoke was discussing the plan of the Orange county Planning Commission to re-route truck traffic toward the new Santa Ana Canyon Freeway when a huge truck roared by the city hall, shutting off all discussion until it had passed.
The racket provoked Mayor Pearson to ask for a motion to write a stiff complaint to the State Highway Commission and to Associated Chambers of Commerce who have been promoting widening of Lincoln ave. The mayor's half-joking request was taken up immediately and the motion carried.
