VICTORS, VANQUISHED—Ronald Legg (left), and Glenda Mungerson (third from left), were the winners at the Lions club speech contest runoff held Friday night in Stanton. They participated against Janet Larson and Sandra Johannes. President Warren Schutz headed the Anaheim delegation and Stanton President Calvin Pebley (right), presided over the meeting. (Gazette photo by Bradley) Easter Seals (Continued from Page 1) Bayshore, strength and co-ordination are returned to muscles and Zone Contest Next for Winners In Lions Club Speech Trials VICTORS, VANQUISHED—Ronald Legg (left), and Glenda Mungerson (third from left), were the winners at the Lions club speech contest runoff held Friday night in Stanton. They participated against Janet Larson and Sandra Johannes, President Warren Schutz headed the Anaheim delegation and Stanton President Calvin Pebley (right), presided over the meeting. (Gazette photo by Bradley) Easter Seals (Continued from Page 1) Bayshore, strength and co-ordination are returned to muscles and nerves wasted by disease. Hollis Fuller of 7641 Acacia st., Anaheim, provides the best local illustration of how the society works. Fuller was stricken last July 28 by polio. He spent some time in an iron lung and was on his way to recovery when he was stricken again this time by pneumonia. After another siege in the iron lung, Fuller finally began definite recovery. Today he is being fitted for leg braces which will enable him to get around again on his feet. A wheel-chair is on order for him which will be equipped with a drafting table and necessary slings and other equipment for him to work without becoming unduly tired. His left shoulder muscles were hit quite seriously by the disease and a sling to hold his elbow above the table in working position will be necessary. Occupational therapy administered by Mrs. Chichester has brought the arm and shoulder a long way toward full use and strength. In this case the society has worked hand in hand with Andrew J. Fuller of the Santa Ana branch of the California Vocational Rehabilitation office. These services, rendered by the Society for Crippled Children and Adults, are paid for by the sale of Easter Seals. Approximately 70 per cent of funds raised by the society in Orange county remain here for use with county cases, according to Mrs. Chichester. The other 30 per cent goes to state and national organizations of the society for further research and service on the state and national scale. Zone Contest Next for Winners In Lions Club Speech Trials To present to the public the problems surrounding the maintenance of this commonwealth-as a free nation and to consider the means at our disposal of meeting present and future world problems, the Lions Clubs of California and Nevada are sponsoring their 14th Annual Students Speakers Contest. In the runoff of the local contest Friday night, Miss Glenda Mungerson, representing the Stanton Lions and Ronald Legg, for the Anaheim group, were winners. They competed with two other sophomores from Anaheim Union High school, Janet Larson and Sandra Johannes, all having been previously selected and coached on the subject "American Voter's Responsibility," by drama teacher, Miss Louise Hitt. Contest tellers were Vic W. LaMont, Anaheim and Lewis Bartleson of Stanton Tincknerberg were Lewis McBratney, Stanton and Bob Borden, Anaheim. Judge who made the final decision and handed returns to general contest chairman, Royal Martens of Stanton and Marsh M. Beebe, Anaheim, were Wayne Flynn of the Santa Ana college speech dept, Louis Taylor, president of the Anaheim Toastmasters and John Knutzen, past president of the Anaheim Toastmasters. The two winners will be included in the eight clubs sending contestants to the zone contest for Northern Orange county at the Anaheim Elks club, March 25, at the ladies night dinner meeting, 7 p.m. The zone winners will go on to the Orange county regional contest in Santa Ana at the Masonic Temple, April 8. Calvin Pebley, president, presided at the dinner for the Stanton group, who were hosts, at the Imperial Restaurant, Anaheim president, Warren Schutz head. New Idea For Mass Bike Thief Ever see a bicycle trailer? One was discovered, quite by accident, when a car backed into the bicycle rack in front of the Anaheim theater preparatory to pulling away Saturday afternoon. The back bumper of the auto caught in the rack and started down Center st., with the rack right behind it. Pedestrians helped to disengage the makehift carrier after it started limping the Saturday traffic about half-block away from its original starting point. Personnel from the theater resumed their patron's transportation so this point. The driver? It was a woman, of course. Homemakers Forum (Continued from Page 4) they teach the members of their troops. Mrs. Keith Murdoch, program chairman, and I watched the ceramic class the other morning while members were in the midst of pouring the slip and making plaster of paris molds. Mrs. E. Arias was thoroughly splashed with the sticky stuff as she poured it from a bucket but she did not mind. Her Scout troop at George Washington school is so interested that they can Services Tuesday For Wm. Mitchell Funeral services will be conducted in El Centro, Tuesday at 2 p.m. for William Mitchell, 50 member of the Orange county squad, California Highway Patrol, and one of the most popular officers in the county. His death took place Saturday at his home in Santa Ana. He had been ill for about six months. GROWING UP — Princess Margaret third daughter of Holland's Queen Vijana and Prince Baghdad poses with smile after celebrating her eighth birthday. NOMINATED — Sarah E. Spain, Birmingham, Ala., attorney, has been nominated for post of president of Rotary International. It was announced in Chicago. If no other nominations are received by April 1, Spain will become president. Mrs. Keith Murdoch, program chairman, and I watched the ceramic class the other morning while members were in the midst of pouring the slip and making plaster of paris molds. Mrs. E. Arias was thoroughly splashed with the sticky stuff as she poured it from a bucket but she did not mind. Her Scout troop at George Washington school is so interested that they can hardly wait to find out what she has learned. Mrs. Roy Ross and Mrs. D. M. Menzie were working with cereal bowls and flower dishes for their troops of seven year-olds. Mother's Day and Father's Day are coming so Mrs. H. L. Robinson's troop will make heart plaque's for mother while Mrs. H. W. Brown is hoping that her mold will produce ash trays for father. It was fascinating to watch Mrs. George Rose and Mrs. Freed Hooper make attractive sugars and creamers and everyone watched breathlessly while Mrs. L. A. Clarke removed a green relish dish from its mold. Although all these women are new at the game, the ceramic toothbrush holders, flower pots and candy dishes were certainly professional looking. Mrs. Hoskins said that she has never had a class so energetic and interested. Through the work of these volunteer trainers, Anaheim GIRL Scouts will be able to spend many happy and profitable hours. Anyone interested in these crafts is advised to call Mrs. Norbert De Cock, craft consultant in charge of the new craft house. KOREAN WAR (Continued from Page 1) fighting over northwest Korea in this war. On the ground, red resistance collapsed on the east central front and faded sharply before a three-pronged Allied spearhead along the west-central sector of the Allies' advancing 70-mile line. United Nations tank columns rolled to within five miles of Hongchon on the west-central front. Hongchon is a breast communist troop staging area that once was reported to be Chinese general headquarters. U. N. forces met little resistance as they probed within sight or the big red supply center. Only the day before, reds before Hongchon fought stiff fear-guard action indicating they would make a fast ditch stand. British, Canadian and Australian troops were within five miles of Hongchon on the south. They were 22 miles south of the 38th Parallel. A U. S. First Cavalry Division tank force stabbed three miles forward Monday to within five miles of the red center on the southwest. U. S. First Division Marines, approaching Hongchon from the Southeast, were reported six miles away. North Korean resistance collapsed on the east-central front. ANNOUNCEMENTS Personals-Spec.
